So what's everyone's plan this winter to keep up with teh workouts while the weather gets colder? Right now I've been walking 3mi several times a week and it's beginning to get too cold some eves to want to continue that! brrrrr! Had my ear-muffs, gloves and sweats on tonight. Wasn't too bad but as it gets colder I know me, I won't wanna be out there! So tomorrow at 5:30am I'm up to do a Windsor palates work-out. My 7th grade daughter wants to do it with me. We'll hope this flies! I'm no early bird and neither is she! This is going to be a challenge to even get out butts OUT OF BED let alone exercising!! We can do it though right! Come on pump me up, I NEED it!! LOL I quit going to CURVES as my schedule has gotten too difficult to continue since my local CURVES doesn't open till 8am. I'd do it at 7am but they won't extend their hrs. It seems a trip to the gym for me has never been ideal either, just too much going on in our busy lives. BUT I'm feeling the change in my body from the decreased exercise since leaving CURVES (for anyone needing to begin an exercise plan, I did CURVES for over a year and next to WLS it's the other BEST thing I've done for me! I do recommend it!) We have a weight bench "system" at our house and I was trying to do workouts with Jim using that but, "time" got in the way there too. I NEED TO MAKE EXERCISE A PRIORITY AGAIN!!!!! I've been at goal over a year and went up 7 pounds to today's weight, from my all time low and am fine to stay at this weight if that's what my body is comfortable at as long as I know I'm doing what I NEED to be doing healthwise with eating and exercising and I feel I've slacked off in the exercise dept. So fellow MO boarders.......share your fitness plan or goals!!! Come on let's here em!!! Tami

Tamara, I don't have any suggestions for winter workouts but a question. When in your journey did you start working out and did you find that it you with your weight loss? I had this warped thought process that (probably out of sheer laziness) I would wait until my weight loss slowed to start an exercise program and then I would use it to revive my weight loss. I've had such a hard time getting motivated to start. My husband and I bought some land and are in a hurry to pay it off so that we can start building our new home....so, I've been working A LOT of overtime. This all started about the time that I quit working extra to pay for my weight loss surgery. It is so hard to find time to work out. Also, I've been battling SEVERE fatigue since my WLS. I did finally start on B12 injections this month and I'm hoping to reap some relief from the fatigue with that. I've applied for a weekend option position at my job which would allow me more time to workout and am trying really hard to begin a program. Intellectually, I know that it (exercise) will help my fatigue in the long run....but it's so hard to start. I have a membership to my local YMCA (actually I've been a silent contributor as I've been a member for 3 years and have probably been 5 times....HA!). The YMCA is close, so I'm pretty sure that's where I'll start. Any suggestions? Any thought? Did your weight loss increase when you started working out? Victoria

Victoria, The ONLY exercise I did fomr April 04 (my surgery) to Jan 05 was walking. I too HATE to exercise......never ever stuck with ANY workout program in my life! I'd gotten to goal or within 10 pounds when I began CURVES. But within the first 2 mos I lost 2 pants sizes and just a few pounds. So for me it wasn't so much the pounds as it was chaning my build. I thought CURVES was not that much of a workout but I was WRONG! It made a huge difference in my body. So although I slacked off by only walking, the walking did do alot of good as well. Even while working you can woalk on your breaks. I climb 8 flights of stairs on my break at work. It's a good workout! I'm gasping for air by the time I reach the elevator to go back to my floor! YOU WILL FEEL BETTER AFTER INCORPORATING MORE EXERCISE. What I had to do to get started was to just make it a part of my daily schedule....3-4 days a week, never less, I would go before work or after work depending on my hrs and change clothes there. I stuck to it each day and really missed it when I didn't go. When I was able to go after work (when working at school and I was off at 3pm) it gafve me such a BOOST for the evening. My evening walks do that now except I don't walk till 8pm many nights and then I'm up LATE with energy to burn! lol SO find a spot in your day, before or after work to commit to the Y. Make it a habbit! You'll ove it! And climb some stairs, walk the halls, whatever you can do to get in 15-20mins or more during the work day as well. It WILL help! GOOD LUCK!!! Tami

thanks, again Tami! It's so great to finally get back to the board and actually find someone to talk to! It's so strange. I have people in my life that are supportive and that care for me (husband, friends, etc.) but I feel like such a screwball talking about these kinds of things with ANYONE....except people like me that are living it. I really need to get to support group. I haven't been since surgery. Isn't that stupid? It's partially back to that working too much thing. But a big part was how desperate to get the surgery I was and how much better I feel these days about the world (since WLS) it's only now that I'm beginning to feel like I could benefit from support group again. For so long....I was just on that Post op high. I was losing weight, doing great and didn't feel like I needed anyone. It's only now that all these emotional, exercise and fatigue issues are starting to come up. thanks again for being here tonight! Just to recap....aren't you the one who works with Kelli at Mt. Vernon? I am the ICU nurse who was considering going to work there to get my surgery paid for. I ended up going to Mexico and paying cash for the surgery. I'm still working in Medical/Coronary ICU @ Cox.

By the time we'd meet up our break would be over! lol I'm not at the hospital. I'll email you the details. I've learned not to post them all on the board. Some crazies out there ya know!!! lol PLEASE come to our new Group Monday night! See Claudette's post! You will be amazed at the good it will do you. Helps keep you in check and reminds you of those little rules you seemed to have forgotten! I speak from experience!!! I've gotta head off to bed but I'll email you some personal info. Tami

I know what you mean about not wanting to work out outside in the cold BRRRRR! I did join a gym but it is also a rehab place so they are only open for 2 nights a week (I only paid 35.00 for a year). I need to find a good excersise tape to do here at home and then do the workout up at the gym twice a week. I do need to be careful because I am 7wks preggo and I don't want to work off all of the calories I accumulate during the day. I was up to walking briskly for 3 miles but I burn to many calories doing that so I will try something alittle better next time. Have a great day and God bless, Penni

Penni, Have you tried the palates workout videos? Many of thm won't burn too many calories but will keep you toned or help you GET toned. I could sure feel it today from teh one I did two mornings ago. I'm goign to do it every other day now. I need the most toning in the hips/butt and that's where I felt it the most so I think I've found my new friend for the next while! ; )
