Hey Shelia! Nice to meet you. Glad you are here on the board. I did interperting at church for about 2 years. I am still considering going and getting my certification and doing it professionally. I would never have been able to keep interperting without surgery. It is very straining. Do you use an interperter or are you strictly a lip reader? If you use an interperter for other things I think this would be the perfect time to use an interperter again. Or, you might bring someone with you who will sit in front of you and mouth everything the doc says. I hope you can get the information you need at your seminar. If nothing else works you might just let the Dr's office know you will be coming and to save you a front row seat and get there early and meet with the doc and a nurse and explain your need and see if he will face you and not turn away when he speaks. Good Luck with the seminar and the surgery.

Hi Sheila - At the seminar I attended, they had packets of information for everyone and included in that packet were copies of all the slides that were used by the doctor/nurse coordinator during the presentation as well as other types of information. Check to see if your doctor does the same thing and if not, request that they make you copies. I would think one of your biggest disadvantages at the seminar might be not knowing what questions are being asked from the audience of the doctor. For me, that's where I got some real good information - a lot of my questions were the same as others and quite a few questions I hadn't thought of but found very interesting. You might also request that the doctor or someone that you can see repeat each question before they give an answer. And, if all else fails, request a one-on-one with someone in the office! Go for it and make it happen!

I think if you got there early enough, you could get a seat right up in front, and that a person who is in charge there, you need to speak to and let them know and im sure they will work with you,CONGRATS on your first step and GOODLUCK!!!; -)
