I know I haven't posted on here in a LONGGGGG time but I just want to thank you Jan for being such a caring person. Jan keeps in touch with me as I'm sure she does with a lot of people here and I just want her to know how much I appreciate it. Jan, thank you again for letting me know about the new certified hospitals in St. Louis. I called St. Alexius and they still had my information from a few years ago when I was working and I'm waiting for a call back from their insurance people. I haven't called Barnes Jewish yet, does anyone know if either of the two accept Medicare? Medicare is my primary and I have Medicaid as a supplimental. Thank again, Lia

Lia you are perfectly welcome. and they were just given their cetificate of excellance ffrom medicare so i assume they now have doctors there that are tanking medicare. you will just have to call them and find out what all they do now. I dont think that medicare will give out the COE without them having doctors in place and all to accept medicare. Jan

When I first looked into all this, I thought that if they were a Center of Excellence they would accept Medicare. I found out that Medicare doesn't determine who becomes a Center of Excellence. Medicare requires a hospital and surgeon to have a COE before they will pay for the surgery, the hospital and surgeon obtain the COE certification from the Surgical Review Corporation which isn't connected to Medicare. So although Medicare requires the COE, it doesn't mean that the hospital with the COE will accept Medicare. Confusing, I know...drives me nuts...lol Lia
