? About Carbohydrates
I have a call into Dena, but she won't be back in the office until tuesday!
Maybe some of you can tell me.
When I saw Dr. Hornbostal for my 1 week follow up he said I could move up on my
diet but to keep an eye on my carbohydrate intake and not to exceed 20gms a day.
Well................. today I looked at my skim milk and protein powder and together for
an 8 oz serving it's 15gms of carbohydrates!!!!!!!!!
Do the math.......I'm supposed to drink 3 a day that's 45gms of carbohydrates!!!!!!!
I'm I supposed to mix it with water
?????
Got any suggestions??????
Thanks Brenda

no i dont have the answer for that. my soy milk is 10 grams of carbs. so that doesnt help much. Are you able to get 3 of them a day down yet? how about the water? I am doing well to get down 2 protein drinks and no where near the amount of water yet
I try i really do but i just cant get it all down. Jan
Some people mix protein drinks with water but to me they taste lousy. You might try for a short time buying premade protien drinks I drank carb solutions pre made drinks and I could get them down. I am not a fan of protien drinks and personally I only used them a short while like the first couple of months. I felt better and had more energy on eating real protien not shakes but that is me. I did better on cottage cheese, tuna, cheese and thing I liked.
but right now David we are in a stage where that stuff isnt permitted and if i cant get anymore down at a time than i do now i will never get enoough protein. Our diatition says we need 90 grams a day that is a lot of cottage cheese and tuna isnt it? lol Anyway right now it is protein shakes untill for me the 14th then i can start trying to get some of it in per real food. . I know that all surgeons are different, and a lot of them are on the anti-carb patrol. My own surgeon's protocol calls for 50+ g of protein each day without counting carbs. HOWEVER...the dietician that works in his program will tell you that the carbs you choose should be the healthy ones...fruits, whole wheat pasta and breads, etc., and NEVER eaten alone...always with protein.
With THAT said...I'd probably get really skinny if I could stick to just 20 g of carbs a day. But then, I'd be hungry all the time because carbs are what fills me up.
ANYWAY...as long as you aren't taking in the "bad" carbs, going over the 20 g, especially with milk and protein powder, I think you'll be okay. And yes, USUALLY, you mix the protein powder with water. ICK! I like the Advant Edge pre-mixed stuff...15 g protein, 100 calories, and tastes good.
Hope that helps a little.
