Okay, I'm 32 years old and have always been overweight. Even as a teenager. Now as an adult, I'm extremely overweight. At only 5 feet tall - yes 5 feet - I weigh in at 242 lbs. I've tried Atkins it works - lost about 40lbs and gained every pound back. I've tried weigh****chers but wasn't losing much so I quick. I've tried a variation of diets with little or no success. With my BMI at about 47.3 I'm now experiencing lower back pains and possibly depression. I am considering going to see my general physician to see if I qualify for this surgery. I have United Health Care Choice Plus for insurance. I know that many of you are not insurance carriers or Physicians but IYO (in your opinion) do you think I'll qualify?

For your height, you are more than 100 lbs overweight. Your BMI is over 40. You suffer from complications due to obesity. I'd say you qualify, according the the NIH guidelines. Now, if only you can get that much needed insurance approval... Good luck! Pamela

You qualify easily and uhc is good at paying as long as your policy does not have an exclusion. Call uhc and find out. If they cover wls they are fast and approve pretty quickly. My wife and had uhc when we had our surgeries and they paid pretty good,

As David said, call your insurance, ask if they have someone who specializes in bariatric patients and then ask them what the requirements are. It sounds as if you would qualify but the insurance holds the power so ask them right up front. Lana
