What exactly is a RNY - Proximal?

I've been doing some research on RNY before my consult with Dr. Hornbostel. Found something on RNY Proximal. Said something about bypassing a smaller portion of the intestine. Can anyone provide additional information? Is this what most people that have lap. RNY have done? Thanks for your help. The people are GREAT on this board and I really appreciate that! Debbie D.

I dont know what Doc Hornbostel does. My surgeon made the length of the bypass depending on your bmi. The bigger you are the more he bypasses. My bmi at surgery was about 43 and he did not bypass as much on much and I had much fewer problems than those who had larger bmis. The more bypassed the more you can have trouble digesting and the faster you can lose.
