Craig: It's so good to see you posting. Sounds like things are going great. Although I'm still pre-op, info from Dr. Scott for diet in first few weeks after surgery sets target of 64 ounces of fluid per day (4-6 ounces per hour), with 3 protein drinks per day (4-6 ounces each) with total daily protein target for men of 65 grams, and 50 grams for women. Hope this is helpful. Take care!

Craig, when I went in for my pre-ops, the dietian said to drink 6 cups of liquid a day--3 cups protein and 3 cups of just liquid, water, apple juice, grape juice, decaf tea, decaf coffee, Crystal Light, SF Kool-aide, etc. Hope that helps...Linda

CRAIG, you can have milk if you can tolerate it. I drank 1 percent and one glass has 8 grams of protein. also applesauce. I have a great receipe for applesauce jello SF. Do you want it. I also had cooked cereal, yogurt, creamed soups, sf popsicles and anything you can puree. eat as book says - but if you get that feeling stop. Be sure to drink drink drink and drink. Colette

You need 60-80 grams of protien a day at a minimum. More than that is better and will make you heal better. If you dont get your protien in you will not feel good or have any energy. At first it is hard . I tried to get two cans of protien supplement down.

Don't stress, it takes time before you can get in all the requirements. It took me three weeks before my stomach could tolerate anything other than ice-cold water, and all I could get in was 40 oz a day. Just do what you can. Your pouch will heal and you'll be able to eat and drink more soon enough. It's the long-term inability to take in nutrients that is the problem. Pamela

Hi Craig. My doc still has me on pureed foods too. In the morning, yogurt or oatmeal for breakfast, snack-protein drink, lunch-soup pureed or cottage cheese (extra protein), snack-protein drink, dinner-different variety of soup or scrambled egg with cheese, snack-protein drink. I try to stay away from any carbs because they slow the weight loss, no mashed taters for me for a while. In between, water, skim milk (extra protein), crystal lite, popsicle, jello to cure the boredom. It is really hard to get everything in, especially the water. If I get in 32 oz right now I feel lucky. The protein is really important, so eat that before any carbs so you get it all in. If not, healing will be slower and you just won't have energy. Glad you are progressing well. Try to keep a routine, plan your meals, write everything down that goes in your mouch (food & drink), and write down your intentional exercise like walking. You will do great.

I have not been on the site since you had surgery. Congrats... I always enjoy what you write. Cream of chicken soup and sugar free popcycles were my main food for awhile along with sugar free pudding and jello. I can not eat sugar free pudding or jello very well now.It has been two years as of august 4th. Yeah!!!!!!!!! I think I have ate too much of them at one time and that sort of caused a pyscological thing. Don't be afraid of the protien drinks or fluid remember it goes right on through. That was a big fear of mine. I was afraid I was drinking too much. Just take sips and keep something going in all them time(except at meal time)You really need the liquid and the protein to heal and to lose wt. Good luck. I hope this helps. Jean E
