Hi, I am new to the site and just would like peoples input about the surgery. If my insurance approves, I am probably going to be doing it in January. Most of you have probably chatted with my sis, Jan Cook. Share your thoughts please! Sugar

The surgery really helps with whatever medical problems you have. I was diabetic as a pre op now I am not diabetic. My cholestorel of lower overal health is better. My crummy little heart is better. I probably would not be alive if not for surgery. The weight gave my heart lots of problems. My heart is still bad but at least is not worse because of the weight. My wife does not have sleep apnea after her wls and she is not diabtic anymore either. It is nice to wear regular clothes and not shop at the fat mans store and be able to wear loud clothes too. I wear bright colors I never would have worn before.

Sugar, I think I saw you at last months support group meeting....nice to see you on the board. My decision to have weight loss surgery was one of the hardest things that I've ever done for myself. It wasn't a rushed thing and was something that I felt I needed to do to better my life. I had some health issues that only losing weight could help. I'm not totally off of medication but, I feel 100 times better and if I had to do it again I would. WLS is not something that is the same with every person...and I like to think of a person going on their own personal journey. Everyone is different and people react different to things...I know people that had surgery around the same time as me...several in fact...some eat more, some can eat less, some can only eat certain things, some steer clear of certain things...the one thing that I've learned from being on this board for 3 years is that....you have to figure things out for yourself...I get a lot of advice and even offer some...but, this is MY WLS journey. If you have any particular WLS question....be sure to post and someone will more than likely be able to offer some kind of advice to you. Good luck on your WLS journey!! Kelli

Hey There, Sugar, I had surgery in February. The week before surgery I started a liquid diet and weighed 275 lbs. (My highest was 286). August 2nd will be my 6 month anniversary and I've lost 80lbs since the week before surgery, 91 lbs in all. The day of my surgery was my last blood pressure pill. I can walk 3.5 mph on the treadmill without holding on for a full hour. Plus I do a couple of three minute jogs. I'm healthy and looking better is a nice benefit. I feel great. If you can do it, I definitely recommend it. I could not stick with a diet long enough to lose more than 35 lbs and did that several times before regaining the weight. God bless and Good luck! Tracey
