Question following surgery and return home

Hi all. Back home from surgery on Tuesday and faring OK, not great, just OK. I have to ask...has anyone experienced diarreha about two days after surgery? Not to be too graphic, but about at ten minute intervals for a day, now only five times today. I am drinking as much water as I can stand, no juices, lots of broth and jello is sustaining me. Pain med is hydrocodone.

glad your surgery is over and yes i think it is pretty comon. Call your doctor and see what you can take to combat the diarreaha. keep up the good work and come back to the board often Jan

Diana, Congratulations on becoming a LOSER!!! I'm almost 2 years post-op and in fact your surgeon Dr. Richardson assisted with my surgery. I did not have the diarrhea issues that you explained...that is a lot! I think I'd hold up on drinking quite so much and call your surgeons service or office and see what they think about it. I do know that the pain medication will constipate you and I think at 3-4 weeks post-op I had to start taking 2 over the counter stool softeners daily and I still do...with this being said everyone is different...and maybe your on some medication that could cause this. I'm not sure but, when in doubt be sure to contact your surgeons office and ask questions. I think Dr. De Le Torre's nurse Nancy was glad when I stopped calling and emailing so much...LOL Maybe tomorrow it will be better...and it does sound like today was better than yesterday. Good luck but, if you're in doubt please get advice from your surgeons office. Please let us know what happens...we get questions all of the time....so it's always nice to hear what the surgeons say about certain things. Take care, Kelli

Hi Diana. I had surgery with Dr. Richardson back in April and was on the same pain med. I too had the diarreha problem. Mine stopped after I quit the pain med. Hope this helps. Deanna

Diana. I have had diarreha since my surgery last Monday but it has slowed down..I just cant figure out where it is all coming from because I have not had anything to eat for three weeks now....Craig Lee
