Docotor reconsidered my request and she is standing by her denial, now it is because I do not have good enough documentation of weight loss attempts . last week it was because I did not have documented proof of BP problems (which I did and they later found) ,so now I guess I need to send in appeal,. I did leave message for doctor . I want to know what exactly she wants documented. I have documentation showing I was on xenical for over 6 months . Prior to that we tried another diet medication from Dr. (don"t remember the name but it was in my records). Anyone else have Great West that can tell me what they want when it comes to supervised diet attempt?

I battled Great West through 3 denials for much the same thing. This is what I did to overturn their denial. You need to sit down and in chronological order start listing all the attempts that you have made to loose weight. It makes no difference if it was the latest magazine type diet that you read about... no matter what. LIST THEM. List the approx. dates if you cannot list months... like... Fall of 2005, spring of 2006 etc. IF you tried it. LIST IT. If something was medically written for like prescription pills. List those along in that master list and state that prescriptions were written by XXX dr. or when you lived at XX place. Do not think that a diet attempt was too trivial to be listed in this listing... if you did it. LIST IT. I also went to the ADA website and cut/pasted info. that they have on what is considered "safe" dieting guidelines. That is where we always hear they touted sage advice that we are not to loose more than 1 -2 lbs. per week in order to be considered safe. Well I used that against them. I listed my commorbidities (which were starting to get out of hand) and I cut/pasted the healthy guidelines as well. I was on a downward death spiral. Even IF I was able to loose weight to the limit of what was considered is healthy by modern medicine. It wouldn't be QUICK ENOUGH OR FAST ENOUGH to stave off my increasing commorbidities. Therefore I HAD to have WLS in order to remain healthy. It was my ONLY option to have a chance at having a normal healthy life. I basically questioned their ethics as well. How could they deny me when it was obvious that conventional dieting and exercise was not going to be enough intervention to prevent disaster?. Their only ethical option WAS to approve me. I got my approval within an HOUR after submitting the latest bit of info. I sent in. Best wished to you honey... don't give up! Pixielf~
