Well, after nearly 2 months of hoping and praying and calls and promises, both of my insurances have finally decided there is an exclusion in their policy and I will not be having surgery. and no, i don't have money to pay for it on my own....and not enough credit or income to do a payment plan. not yet, anyway. There's a reason why it isn't happening....so I must learn my lesson and move on. There's something else I'm supposed to do. Thanks for all the help and support this site has shown. Blessings to all of you and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! deb

Deb, Have you and your physician appealed. It seems to me that almost every insurance company denies the first submittal and then after more information is submitted they approve. If you want the surgery, please ask your physician to help you appeal. Lana

Debbie....don't give up, not yet anyway! I was the same way, Coventry wouldn't cover me and no one would take Medicare in the area I'm in or they weren't a COE and the hospital you have this done through will need to be if you have Medicare. Appeal...like Andew said...we all (well most) get turned down the first time. After 3 turn downs, I sat here moping, thinking there was no way! Well, for me there was a way, after all. I have to drive a little farther but I'm going to see Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia, MO and if all works out, I should be losing this weight by the end of the year! You sound so sad, please don't throw in the towel just yet. Think and make sure there is no possible way and then you may want to contact Walter Lindstrom at ObesityLaw.com. He is a atty. that fights insurance companies for people who need wls and he is a friend of Dr. Hornbostel. ....(the other) Deb

Don't give up so easily!! Ask the doc's office if they had other patients who were initially denied but finally approved and get in touch with them to find out what they did. Can't hurt to appeal and appeal again if they deny again. By all means, if you really really want this, fight for it. I had to fight with my insurance also; secondary finally caved in!!! My date is in 5 days from today, so it can be done.

Debbie, DONT GIVE UP DONT GIVE UP DONT GIVE UP DONT GIVE UP!!!!!!! Go to Dr. Hornbostels seminar, and ask them about a lawyer who will fight for you. The insurance companies hate him with a passion and rumors have it that when they hear his name they approve it. First write your appeal letter and proceed from there. Dont give up. Colette

This year a Missouri Senator Days introduced a bill that would mandate insurance companies to provide coverage for the treatment of morbid obesity. The bll didn't go anywhere this year due to lack of support and the way it was worded but Senator Days will not give up.She is working with United Health Care to change the wording. You are a perfect person to write your senator and show support to end this discrimination. I know it's hard because I too have an exclusion-but DO NOT give up!!! Write letters make call send emails. Effect the change that needs to be made. There are a few other states that have already put bills like this into effect. It is not hopeless. We just have to fight for our rights. Dannielle
