Dr. Hornbostel - Lap Band

Hi, Everybody: I'm new to this group and could really use your input. I was working with Dr. Hoehen's office in Shawnee Mission, KS. However, was just told due to an insurance problem that the nearest surgeron would be Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia, Missouri. It'll be about an hour or so drive for me. Not bad, could be worse. My insurance requires a six month Doctor supervised diet which I am now 3 months into. I am frustrated that Dr. Hoehen's office didn't catch this insurance problem a lot sooner. However, it shouldn't make a huge difference with my insurance carrier...since this surgeron is in network as well. My question is what has been your experience with Dr. Hornbostel as well as the hospital he practices at? I have no experience with Sedalia doctors or hospitals. Any input you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I understand you have to attend one of his seminars, the next one is 8/2/2006 and I am going to try and make that one. I think Dr. Hornbostel is great. I believe he really cares about people. I also believe he is a christen and you would be lucky to have him as your Dr. I feel I was very lucky to have him to my surgery, because I really believe he knows what he is doing and is very good at it. Sky

Deborah I havent had my surgery yet but Dr. H is my doctor. I really like him. He knows what he is doing and is a very kind man too. The Hospital in Sedalia is small but they have all of the modern equiptment that big hospitals have I think you will really be impressed. Jan

deborah, i had doctor phil as we call him lol do my rny last september he is absolutely awesome!! so is every member of his staff especially dena! i have lost 170 lbs in only 10 months and all is going perfect. bothwell hospital is so great my room was private, as i think most bariatric rooms are they treated me like i owned the place when i was there (which was only one day) dr phil sent me home cause every thing went so smooth when i pressed the nurses buzzer they came right away and knew what to get for me if i needed anythng....i was self pay and they even sent me a refund cause i had to pay for three days in advance i live in independence missouri...50 hwy is a very nice drive to sedalia! todd lap rny 09/08/05 375/205/205 dr hornbostel sedalia mo

Dr. H is my doctor, too. My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 10 and it is an open RNY. When I went to talk to him about the surgery, he was very straight forward, kind, but doesn't beat around the bush. He will be totally honest with you. He is a very concerned doctor. He really watches over you after surgery, I've been told. His staff are super. Dena Neill is an absolute sweetheart! She has had RNY and understands everything you're going through. I have had several surgeries in Bothwell, as I live about 6 miles outside of Sedalia. The staff has always treated me with respect and been very helpful. All the rooms at Bothwell are private, so if you are a night owl, you're not disturbing anyone. I highly recommend the doctor and the hospital. I think you'll be happy there. I am also self pay, so I'm hoping I get money back, too. Good luck...Linda

Hi Deborah, Welcome to the Missouri Board. I would sure have Dr. Hornbostel in a flash if my insurance would cover him and the hospital up there because so many people from the board have used him and everyone loves him to death. I will have Dr. Hodges in Springfield and I haven't had a consult with him yet because I'm also in the six month diet/exercise program and my ins won't pay for a surgical consult until I finish the six months. It's fine though, I've been at this for a couple of months and find that I don't mind the exercise like I thought I would. So, I'll probably be having surgery next Spring and looking and feeling better by Summer. It's good you found out about the Doctor earlier so that you can schedule your surgery for around the time you finish the diet. I'm so scared that they'll find some way to deny me but I try not to be ruled by fear and trust God that it will all work out. Had my psych consult today and I'm not as crazy as everyone thought!!!
