Missouri Get Together?????

Elizabeth and i have been talking about maybe a get together for wls patients. pre and post op and their families. Maybe a whole week end of meeting . How many would be interested. Where would be a good place to meet. need to be somewhere that there was facilities for camping, lodging, healthy foods. areas to play in and meet in. We thought about saying something at the next support meeting in Springfield. would like to get a head count of possibles and places suggested. Jan

I hate that I live so far from everyone I am going to be at the next Springfield seminar, but can't see making the trip for a support meeting. No one in my family will even ride up to the seminar with me on the 8th. I am actually quite sad about that.... They all think I am "giving up" on trying lose weight myself. So they think I've lost my mind. But I am a Left Handed Leo that has lived on my own since I was 17, so do ya think I am listening to them??? Fyi: I went off to college @ 17...with a scholarship and a loan I took out myself... Didn't want you guys thinking I was a "street kid" with green hair and 29 piercings or something LOL Sherr

Sherr Just wanted to say that to me and I am sure all the others here on the MO board. It wouldnt matter to us if you did have green hair and 29 piercings!!!! We like you for who you are. Melissa

My husband and I would come. How about Pomme de Terre, Bennett Springs, Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia (they have a campground and lots of groups have meetings there), or Bothwell Lodge State Historical Site north of Sedalia on Highway 65? At the Lodge, you can't camp, but there are some shelter houses where you can have picnics and playgrounds where the kids can play. There are campgrounds close by in Sedalia as well as motels, just as long as it's not during Fair time! That's just some ideas. I'm not picking Sedalia because I live close , just because it's centrally located in the State. By the way, I'm not a leader, I'm a joiner, so I won't set up anything! Linda

Sounds like that would be a lot of fun. We had a small support group in West Plains, Missouri and we used to do things like that. We had parties and social events . I usually made some healthy snacks to show people we can still eat good just differently We would go to our mutual surgeons support group meetings and stop at garage sales on the way. Our surgeon had a wls picnic for his patients once a year and that was fun too. It would be nice to get together. I will go to the meeting in Springfield if I dont have to work that day.

these are all good suggestions and will put them on the list. anyone else have any ideas of where? We were thinking about a week end that way some could come or go. stay or not. some like to camp, some would make a weekend of it in a motel, (Me) and some could or would just come for the day. let me know ok Jan

Jan, I would sure try to come. Setting the date is hard but I think a place where there is camping and motels would be good and, like you, I'd probably just come for the day. I really am a traveller and don't mind going places without DH. He's not as outgoing as I am, actually few people are!!! It would be fun to be together. I met a great guy at New Images, the exercise place my Insurance insists I go to. His name is Alan and he's having the surgery too. He's in his six month diet period but a little ahead of me. I hope to get him to support meeting soon. He has Aetna under his wife's work and it is paying great for him. Gotta get back to business. Hugs Lana

Would LOVE to come to a get-together!! Hubby probably wouldn't come, but my older daughters have been asking about a support group or something that they can attend with me! this would be AWESOME!! Just point the way and I'll do my darndest to be there! ps, still nothing from insurance...will start making calls again on Monday! I HATE WAITING!!! hehe blessings, deb
