Newbie and question
Good Morning!! I just joined this website and thought I would introduce myself and say HI!!
I started my journey to this point probably 20 years ago, but have put off doing anything this drasti****p telling myself "try one more thing. Just one more thing." I have a long family history of obesity and related illnesses AND weight loss surgery. NONE of which, to date, has been successful for my family. But as I said in my profile, now we know WHY they were not successful. Originally, there wasn't alot of counseling or instruction. It was touted (to my family anyway) as the CURE. Now we know it as only a TOOL, YOU are the cure! I'm ready for that!
I am currently at 264 (or somewhere in that vicinity), with a BMI of 44. I have been to the seminars, I have handed in my packet, I have had the psych eval (scariest thing! but they didn't keep me, so I guess I'm safe! hehe). All my letters are in and the blood work had been done recently and those results are in. All has been signed off by the surgeon and I am waiting to hear from insurance. I have United HealthCare and the preliminary call stated they covered this.
Does anyone else have UHC and how long does it take for them to respond?
I am very anxious to get the procedure done and begin recovery. I know this is really silly, but I have almost six weeks between summer school and the beginning of the fall sememster and i really wanted to do this while I was off! I know, what a way to spend your summer, but I felt this would give me enough time to really figure out my new tool and not have to take alot of time off from school.
So, Thanks for listening, and THANKS FOR CREATING THIS AMAZING SITE!!! NOW i have a NEW ADDICTION!!! hehe
Thanks,
Deb

Deb welcome to the Mo. board. We hope we can be of assistance to you on your journey. I am in the same process right now. My surgery will be August 14 and cant wait to begin my new life. Yes surgery is only a tool it isnt a cure at all. Only we can be the cure but the operation helps us have the cure available to us. Best of luck and come back daily . We will be here for you. Jan

Welcome!!!! We are all so glad that you joined our message board. I am sure once you start to get to know people here on the Missouri board you will find out that were more then just support people. We are all like family. Believe me my family has been very supportive with my whole WLS journey. But noone but someone that has been thro or is going thro what I have been really understands what we go thro. So come on in sit a spell kick off your shoes and stay awhile. Please never feel like any question is silly. We have all been where you are or some are going to be.
Glad to see you here
Melissa
Hi, Deb, congratulations on your decision. I had my surgery on Feb. 22nd after a life long struggle also. Best decision I ever made for myself. I have lost a total of 84 lbs since my surgery and feel like I have a new lease on life. I too had UHC for my insurance and it took about 2 1/2 wks to get my written approval. they were wonderful to work with and settled the claims so quickly. Hope you also have a good experience with them. I took 2 weeks off for recovery ( I had the rou-n-y(sp)lapsco.
and went back to work. I have a desk job so going back to work was easy for me. I did tire out quickly my first few days but bounced back real quick.
Good luck and let us know how things go.
Welcome my wife and I had uhc when we had our surgeries. They paid pretty well just be sure your policy cover wls. They write some polices that cover wls and some that dont depending on what the employer asks for. Some compainies like Walmart get policies that do not cover wls. If they cover wls they will approve easily and you can have surgery fairly soon. Check with the hr department to see if they cover wls.
