Support Group in Lee's Summit
Hey Guys-- My name is Wade and I'm a new person to the board. I am now 9 days post op from Lap Band surgery and things are going very well. Due to liquid diet I'm down 32 lbs. and loving it. I had my surgery in Topeka at the Tallgrass Surgical center. After ten months of battling insurance (and losing) I decided my health was more important than fighting the bureaucracy. Tallgrass (Dr. Dunshee) were very helpful and supportive and the surgery went very well. As I've found out the honeymoon will soon be over and the real work is beginning. To that avail I'm looking for a support group in the Lee's Summit area. Everything I've seen so far is on the Kansas side and I really don't have the time to travel to Topeka. I also work in Overland Park but prefer to stay in Lee's Summit.
Thanks for your help and good luck in your endeavors. Let me know if anyone would like to ask questions from someone just going through postop.
Thanks W.
Hey Wade,
I live in Lee's Summit. However the closest support group is not far from Overland Park at all. My physician hosts a support meeting once a month at Shawnee Mission Hospital on 75th. His webstie is www.Bariatric.com. I did not have Lap band I acually had bypass done.
Sounds like your on your way. Hang in there and keep in touch.

Stephanie-
Just and FYI- the support group at SHawnee Mission is strictly for Shawnee Mission patients. I've already asked about other friends. Dr. Hoehn was my doc too.
But I have had contact with a lady on OH who is supposed to be beginning a support gruop in Lee's Summit area. I have not heard back from her.

Hi guys! I also live in Lee's Summit. My problem is that I had the duodenal switch procedure in Brazil last month, and there aren't any local drs. I know of who either do the DS or provide support groups for it. However, we all are in the same boat as far as trying to learn how to eat again! I would love to find some local support as well.
