Tonight I sat in tears of joy watching the show on Discovery Health called "Kathy's Story"...Kathy went through so much like we I have ...She had gastric bypass and it saved her life.....One of the most precious moments is when she went to church and the minister called her forward and everyone came and laid hands on her and they prayed for her before surgery....a very remarkable woman who now teaches other people.....I hope you all get to watch the repeat of this show its awesome. I have already seen the other one coming up this week about the 17 yo boy who was super morbidly obese and he lost alot of weight becoming the worlds youngest WLS patient....very interesting too...Discovery Health also has a show on early mornings called "I Lost It". some of it is about gastric bypass patients also ...Very inspirational.......Craig Lee

I saw that show some time ago but it was a very good show. I really enjoyed it also. How are you doing? Have you started on your pre-op diet? Are you getting excited yet? Good to see you back on the boards. Write more. Jan

Yes I have Jan I started last week....But today Im gonna start the old cabbage soup diet....I talked to my PCP nurse and from the support group It seems I should focus on low fat for now and try to avoid bad carbs..So in otder to do that it seems the cabbage soup diet is the best...You can have that and skim milk and on the third day you can add a banana....I have lost on this before when I was younger...this is when I didnt know nothing about carbs....Although tomatos do have carbs I believe they are the good carbs though...You're really not suppose to cut out all carbs is what I was told....BUT, what Iam having problems with is protein for my blood sugar since Iam hypo...If I dont eat peanut butter my blood sugar gets to low and cheese too is good for that is what my pcp told me once when it dropped way low..BUT cheese is fat...BUT, I did find mozirilla cheese that was low fat and no carbs.. so that is a plus.......MY sister is taking me to church on July 9th to some old friends in Kirksville They preached at my grandfathers church some.. We are pentecostal so I want to be prayed for, for comfort and Gods help.....I cant wait to lose weight and get my trach tube out so I can go back into the music Ministry. I love Bluegrass gospel music...............Craig Lee

the cabbage soup diet will probably help you lose weight fast but no protein there. You could supplement it with a protein drink 2 times a day . you dont want to lose muscle tissue just fat. At your present weight and being diabetic you need even more protein than that. the atkins could be adjusted to meat , no bacon or sausage, cheese but no fat cheese and eggs, green vegs after the protein. 1% milk is a good protein to mix your protein powder with. We have all discovered a new protein powder it is called ( ON 100%whey protein Gold Standard) Food 4 Less has it and is only 23.00 for a large container big enough to have 2 shakes a day for a month. The flavors are great and no grit. One is called Rocky Road and is absolutly yummy. dont taste like anything that is suppose to be good for you. lol Wonderful that you are going to get to go to church on the 9th . God will sustain and keep you my friend. He can and will take care of you . I hope your dreams of getting back into Bluegrass gospel music comes true. We could then say we knew you when. Dont forget your good buddies when you become famous. Hugs Jan

hey what a coincidence. My family and I do bluegrass gospel too. I live in springfield mo and my brothers and sisters live around in this area. My sons and some of my neices and nephews play and sing with us or as groups. We love it.My sister is a song writer for acuff rose and has written many gospel and country songs. I think her gospel ones are the best but Loretta lynn and Lori Morgan each recorded one of her country songs and she recieved gold records for them. I think it is awesome that you know ronda vincent. I am jealous. I was on oxygen and in a wheel chair. I had surgery 8-6-04 and have lost 216+ pounds. ( I have not weighed lateley) The doctor told me husband that if I had not had the surgery I would not have survived but a few more days. I am living life again.I don't use oxygen anymore. I can walk, ride my bike, work out at the fitness center, drive, and anything I decide to do. We usually go to festivals or churches on the weekends and sing and I started back to college to finish nursing degree in May. I plan on getting a Nurse Practioner's certification.I love being a nurse and I love helping people. I know God healed me through this surgery. I know he could have just said poof you are healed but he chose to use this direction. I can not begin to tell you the many people I have crossed paths with that I would never had had an oppertunity to if I had not been down this path. One of the songs that my sister wrote says "Look at all the battles you've already won." When I complain about the saggy skin on my legs or something like that. My husband just says JEAN look where you have been...look where you are.....look where you are going! I enjoy reading your inputs when I get a chance to come to this site. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Remember God has a plan. (By the way.....That Praying stuff you were talking about works. You are headed in the right direction .............Jean E
