Well, today was the first time since my kids were born four years ago, that i have visited a doctor of any kind. This guy is a Primary, very very nice, young and not bad looking, lol. He sent me for some bloodwork, checked me out, said there was no reason why I wouldn't be able to have the surgery done, but the bloodwork would be back Monday, and we can go from there. He may send me to a Sleep Apnea study, because that helps with getting it through the insurance.....I guess that if you have something actually "wrong" as well as being morbidly obese, then they tend to approve more easily? He said to research more and decide what I think is best for me. He recommended a doctor named Egan?? Anyone have any experience with him? He said he operates out of Southpointe Hospital? I think thats on the southside here somewhere, but i am not totally sure. Any comments would be appreciated........ So.......I am going to continue my research and I found on the calendar, the seminar on next Saturday, the 17th, at St Alexius.....so I will attend that. Is anyone else planning to go that would like to meet up?? Oh, yeah, and BTW, i weighed in at 344................ Thats all for now!!! Robyn

hiyas robyn, Dr. Egan did my gastric bipass implant 2 years ago. It was a trial study. From what I saw of him then. He was pretty awesome. As far as ur pcp.. That is kewl. I know threw new start I also had to have a TSH (thyroid) Level done and a psych consult to see if I could handle the changes I would be undergoing as well as a letter from my pcp saying I was medically cleared for surgery. I also had to have at least 6 months medically supervised weightloss try's. Mine was easy as I was in that research group for a year and was weighed, bp, etc every month. I think christina from new start said that the medically supervised diet was just for my insurance. I have cigna. Good Luck and I hope this helps! Jai

I have not talk to Dr. Egan yet but I have been in contact with his office. They are wonderfully nice. I am hoping to see them on June 14, 2006.

Wow, they are getting you in to see him on Wednesday? How long did it take you to get an appt?? I didnt know how long the initial wait time was to get in, some people I have noticed on the boards seem to be in a waiting period, where others seem to have a date set, but its way out in advance.......... Wondering when I should expect anything ????

Actually, I am not sure if the meeting will be with him or the other Dr., Dr. Valarie Halpin, that works with him. I am doing two things that day. First I am going to a pre surgery support group, her requires that you go to 2 before he performs the WLS. and secondly I plan to talk to him or other Dr. about the procedure and their practice, this could be in a group setting as well. I talked to Alice in his office and she is very patient, helpful and nice. This Dr. Eagen requires you to go to his behaviorlist, nutritionist and what ever other type of Dr. that you need to see for the surgery. I hope this helps. Ms. Butterfly
