Hi Melissa, A friend of mine dumped severely on hotdogs so I was extra careful before trying one. It was about 18 months before I had a turkey hotdog. I didn't have any trouble with it and have had them several times since. Still afraid to try regular dogs though. Sue

I could eat hot dogs about 1 month out, as long as they were a good quality hot dog without too much fat, like Oscar Mayer or a good brand. I ate with with kraut or pork and beans. I even ate them on low carb bread. I kind of have an iron pouch and I can tolerate a lot of things other people cant. I think I am lucky as my doc did not bypass too much intestines on me as my bmi was only 43 at surgery. If I had lost much more weight as a pre op I probably would not have qualified for surgery. If you chew chew chew you should be ok with hot dogs. What will bother you is if they have a lot of fat. You could try something like Oscar Mayer light that has lower fat content. I enjoy me food and dont deny myself anything I jus****ch my portions and dont overdo on bad foods. My birthday was May 25 and I treated myself to some Sara Lee Cheesecake from the grocery store. It was small and I only ate one small slice at a time. It does have sugar but it was not bad as the portion was small and so was the cheesecake. It tasted good and I enjoyed it but I probably wont have any more for a long time. It was better than a huge slice of cheesecake from a restaurant which is big and I would have eaten the whole piece. You might not tolerate cheesecake now but you can make a great sf cheesecake with splenda that is great, I was just tired and kind of lazy. I do make a great sf carrot cake and sf cheesecake that is out of this world and that skinny people eat and like. I made these cakes for a wls buddies birthday party. He also had a regular chocolate cake but the one that disappeared first was my sf cakes. He had lots of regular chocolate cake left that no one wanted. He grabbed a piece of my sf carrot cake so he could have some tommorow. The reciepe section on obesity help has some great sf dessert ideas on it.

I am able to eat hotdogs.I also love brats.I just like anything else have to really make sure it is chewed up.If not it won't stay down. But chewing is really a learning experience.Iam still working on it.And I still for forgetting I don't need all that food.I've wondered if I'm the only one who does that. They say old habits are hard to break an for me that is true. But when I look at the plate I think my word you can't eat that. And I'm so thankful I can't.

Hi Melissa, Normally, hotdogs are much further out in the progression of your diet. The outer casing is hard to digest and can get stuck. Many times the quality of meat (despite what they say), spices and fat content (again, despite what they say) can cause gastro difficulties and I've known them to get stuck more easily even if chewed well. I would check with your surgeon's dietary protocol as to when you can eat them and follow his/her recommendations. At your stage right now, I'd much prefer you to wait and be safe. Even something as normally safe as tuna (i.e. our dear friend, Wayne) didn't sit well with him. Just being conservative and protective..................!! Cathy ObesityHelp Support Group Specialist

I'm about 15 weeks out and cannot eat them yet. However, if you want to try, I reccommend Hebrew National brand (they have a low fat). They are kosher so the meat has a very consistent quality and they process it in a special way which keeps it away from fillers and other nasty ingredients.....my family loves them. Good Luck to you. I have had a craving for a food or two and thought I couldn't eat it but found out it was fine. The reverse is also true - as Wayne said about tuna - I have discovered that meatloaf is from the devil! Two bites of my homemade lean meatloaf and I threw up for an hour! Oh well....good luck Melissa
