I'm having a bummer day!!!
Oh, my friends, I just spoke to my Insurance administrator and she told me that they don't pay for surgery if your BMI is under 40. Mine is just barely above 40 and they want me to do a 6 month structured physician monitored diet and exercise program before I submit for approval. I have tons of co-morbidities but that makes no difference to them. They will pay for the diet and exercise program, which is good news, but if I lose 10 lbs I will go below 40 on my BMI. I had so hoped to have this surgery but it seems at every turn roadblocks are put up by my insurance. I think that eventually I'll have the surgery because no matter how much I lose in the next six months I'll gain it back plus more, that's my usual pattern. But, I'm just discouraged today. I thought I had a solution for my diabetes and arthritis but it's going to be harder than I first thought. I'm an optimistic person and I'll get past this setback but today I'm hurting. It's good to have you to talk to. I'll see some of you at the St. John's meeting in June. Have a great holiday weekend. Hugs from Lovely Lana.
Lana,
I can understand why you're so frustrated...with your co-morbs and all...but like you said when you complete the 6 month supervised diet then you'll gain it back plus more. You won't have to repeat the diet again will you?? Sounds to me like you're just going to have to ride it out and see how you do with the diet and after the six months is up. If you lose some weight and keep it off....then great...good for you!! If you don't and re-gain it....then that will only help you get your insurance approval. Yes, maybe I'll see you at the meeting in June....do you mean the support group meeting or the one with Dr. Hodges??
Take care,
Kelli
