I don't know what to do...
I'm confused...I went to the May 3 seminar with Dr. Hornbostel. I filled out the paper work and faxed it to his office. I did the profile here on the pc. I don't have insurance so I don't have to hassle with that problem. I have my money all ready. Now, what do I do? Has anyone else out there been in this place? Do I wait for Dena to call me? Do I try to set up an appointment with Dr. H? Is there something that I'm supposed to be doing, but no one told me? Can anyone help? I realize I'm just as impatient as anyone else and I'm trying not to be, but I'm having a difficult time waiting. I'm a "list maker" of things I need to do and I don't have a list so I can check things off that I've done. I keep praying to God to help me to be patient. If you have any ideas about what I do next, please let me know because I'm going crazy!

Linda...
What I would do is call Dena and ask her what the next step is. I am sure that you are going to have the usual preop requirements to get out of the way regardless of whether self pay or insurance. I would get to scheduling those and see if they can give you a tentative surgery date pending the results of those tests...
I am alot like you... I like to KNOW what I have up ahead of me and I like to plan things... not that I don't like surprises...but when it comes to something like this... we SURE don't need those pesky surprises...
Best of wishes...

I would call the office but a word of advice. I saw Doc Hornbostel first but the office just blew me off and treated me badly so I had surgery elsewhere. If you are paying yourself I would try to find the best discount and deal I could get. You might want to shop around to get the best deal. There are a lot of good surgeons and hospitals out there who will help you. My experience with Doc Hornbostel and Bothwell Hospital was not good, but many people have used him and done well. I like to be treated like I am important and matter and I dont think Doc Hornbostels staff and the staff at Bothwell look at things that way. This is my personal opinion only. You need to do what you think is best but if you have problems and need help post op are these people going to be there to help you and act like they care about you. Think about it. The surgeon I chose told me I was his patien for life. I see him 1 or 2 times a year and will until one of us kicks the bucket. I know if I have any problems and need him all I have to do is call. Unfortunaley he is 200 miles away, but I know if I need him he wont turn me down and will do everything he can to help me.
the squeaky wheel gets the grease. keep calling. if you dont get satisfactory answers call as often as you want. my girlfriend called every day. if there is an email address for the nurse coordinator use that too. dont let them put you on an answering machine.
usually they have to look it over after it is submitted to see if they want to do other tests like stress test or echo or egd or whatever. that should be the longest part of your process since insurance isnt a factor. let them know you want it asap.
Linda, I would call Dena..you can talk to anyone of them in the office really....Iam sure that they are backed up since the COE went through and the past patients need to get their surgery due to being turned down in Feb...Bothwell is the only hospital in the state of Missouri who is COE for Medicare at this time...They all were very nice to me there and Iam sure that is the reason...Just call Dena and Iam sure they will be able to tell you something.....
