Topic: RE: Post-Memorial Day weigh-in--how did you do?
I started off the weekend early, by taking Friday off.  Did a "Barre" class, then had a spa day- facial, massage, and pedicure!
Saturday, took the 4 legged boy for a long walk, then spent the day with my knitting buddies.  Grilled some chicken for dinner (lime juice, olive oil, fresh ginger marinade- Yum)
Sunday,  took flowers to the cemetery,a walk with the dog, and grilled steak with a salad.
Monday, two walks with the dog, a Pilates class, and chicken  and salad for dinner.  No alcohol here.

Topic: Ben Davis Appearance Tuesday May 29th, 6:30pm
Have you heard of Ben Davis?  He appeared on the cover of Runner's World magazine a few months ago.  He is a guy that has lost 120 lbs, in part by running.  He is someone who understands struggles with weight, and does motivational speaking about it.

He is doing his "Do Life" tour, and coming to Minneapolis today!  He will be doing a 5K run around Lake Calhoun tonight, with anybody who wants to join him.  Location:
South beach area of Lake Calhoun parking lots near the corner of Calhoun Parkway and Vincent Ave.

If you want to learn more about Ben Davis, check out his video about his weight-loss journey at:

Topic: Post-Memorial Day weigh-in--how did you do?
The holiday weekend is over--BBQs, sunshine, alcohol, fun!  Hope you all had a good time.

I worked.  And worked.  It was crazy.  On Sunday night my kids were out at the lake with the rest of my extended family for our traditional "open the cabin on Memorial Day weekend" event.  I had to miss it.  So I found myself doing some emotional eating because of feeling sorry for myself (even tho the choice to work was mine-- humans are NOT logical).

While I am disappointed that I resorted to emotional eating, I see two positives:  one, I recognized that I was doing emotional eating, even at the time I was doing it.  That helped me keep it somewhat under control.  And two, I didn't really have any food in the house that I could do too much damage with.  I ended up eating three graham crackers and some yogurt pretzels.

Results:
Starting weight:  298.4
Last week: 143.9
This week: 142.5
Loss of 1.4 lbs this week

I'll take the loss, but I don't know that it occurred because of anything beneficial I did.  I did get out and exercise a bit, not as much as I would have liked.

Paul, I got out on my bike for the first time this year--did an 8 mile ride on Sunday morning.  Forgot that it was my first time out for the year, and wrecked my knee!  Stupid.  I thought I was being really smart by not running so I wouldn't pound on my knee before a long day on my feet at work--do something low-impact like cycling, right?  But no.  The different motion and flexing was enough to make me gimpy--I even have a bruise showing up on the side of my knee, so I must have torn something.  Needless to say, I didn't run the 5K on Monday morning.  (I did run 3 miles, but easy running.)  Amyway, once again my mileage is low for the week.  15.2 miles running.

How did you all do?  How are those stairs treating you, Paul?

Hi Guys - well I am 9 days out from surgery and planning a very low key weekend. Taking walks, sipping on H2O and eating my 1/4 cup of soup or cottage cheese! HAHAHAHA exciting stuff huh! I am feeling really good just learning about my new stomach. I get to try pureed foods this weekend but I am in not much of a hurry. Enjoy your weekend!

 Hi Renee,

I was able to get a couple of good rides in before i went east. I will be really busy here, and this place is like owning a stairmaster. My son does have a bike, so I will try and use it on my runs to Home Depot.

Topic: Pre-Memorial Day Weigh-in--how will you stay on track?
Hi All:

It's been so quiet on the board, I even forgot to post Monday weigh-in.  Nobody missed it, so I guess it is not too necessary, but it still helps me so I will bore you with it.

Starting weight:  298.4
Last week: 142
This week: 143.9  GASP!
Gain of 1.9 lbs this week

No, I have not been doing well in terms of maintaining.  It's been the exercise, or lack thereof.  I have been nowhere near the mileage or exercise time that I was before the half-marathon.  I finally feel up to par, the running is back to being comfortable and fun.  That's the good news.  But I started working a second job, and so I have been working some 12 hour plus days--that is tiring me out, and I can't seem to pry myself out of bed in the morning for my run.

Paul, mileage for last week was 13.5 miles--pathetic!  This week isn't looking much better, but hopefully I can get a run in tonight.  Thunderstorm this morning kept me inside.

Don't know when I'm going to fit training for a triathlon in--maybe the second job will cool off a bit after this weekend.

Does everyone have plans for the Memorial Day weekend?  Specifically a plan for how to handle the food?  BBQs, parties, alcohol?  I'm handling it by working all weekend, LOL.  Not a fun way to handle it, but I think it will be effective.  Also, running the Brian Kraft 5K on Monday morning.  I will be slow, but at least I'll be out there.

Isn't it ironic that when you are obese, you want anything to be overweight? I remember being a young teenager and thinking my life was ending that I was classified as overweight...now that would be a dream come true!

Good luck and keep working hard!
