Hi Lucy, nice to meet you.  Im Jackie and I went to Park Nicollet.  The info session was great and I felt very good about it but I didnt really *click* with Dr Jones who runs the sessions.  NEVER FEAR THO...Dr Svendsen is part of the PNC Bariatric program and he is AWESOME!

Besides being cute...the most amazing thing about him is how gentle he is for such a big man.  I am a klutz of the first order and when I was in his office for the consult, I wobbled a bit and he reached out and caught me and helped me sit up on the table.  His hands were gentle and even tho I have fibromyalgia and sometimes even a small bump can hurt for hours, it didnt hurt at all!

I also love his answer for WHY he specializes in bariatrics.  He said that being a general surgeon is great because they can fix all kinds of things...but he would rather fix a chronic problem for someone who has been suffering for a long time as opposed to something that just happened like a torn muscle or ruptured appendix.  I thought that was awesome!

Good luck on your journey.  The losers bench is great and we will make room for you when your time comes!

I agree...however I have MA and it was 100% covered.  Did the health plan give a reason it wasnt covered?  You could always apply to your worker for a change of health plan for good cause so you can get it covered and not have to pay for the surgery out of pocket.

I only know of one person who went to Mexico for WLS and she came home and within a week had an infection and had no one to go to for help.

whatever your choice...good luck!  The losers bench is an AWESOME place to sit no matter WHERE your surgery is done!

can I ask why you want to go to Mexico instead of having the surgery done here in MN?

Isn't that amazing???  I made a similar comparison with bags of dog food, also 35#.   At the very least, it was awkward to haul that bag around.  I started to track my weight loss in how many bags of dog food I had lost - nearly 5!  If I look at 5 bags of dog food and ponder having it all somehow strapped to my body?  Shoot...  It's a wonder I was able to move in that body!

As for buying the lighter fluffier cat litter?  I say - KEEP BUYING THE 35 POUND BUCKETS!!  Keep reminding yourself how far you've come, it'll help you stay on track!!!
