I know rupp has been doing RNY for ages, he saved my mothers life back in the late 80's after a different surgeon messed her up big time. I dont know what his stats are like for VSG and I almost went to him for RNY for myself but changed my mind to wanting a DS and I am now out at the U of M. Best thing I can suggest is write out all your questions and ask them of him. If you dont like what you hear you can always find a different surgeons office to work with.

I can't wait for Saturday! I cleaned my closets like a mad woman this weekend and I was brutal in culling out what I knew was too big but was I was still hanging on to. I'll have at least one full black leaf garbage bag full and some jackets and things, too. I've also recruited friends and co-workers to make this a clean out your closet week and donate as well! Hope we have a good turn out!

Heidi

PS... I cross posted this on the VSG forum, maybe we should do the others as well??

Topic: Another Monday rolls around--weigh-in time
Hi All:

Hope you all had a good week.  Sorry I missed coffee, but I am working a second job now, and Saturday mornings are going to be work days a lot during the holidays.  Bummer.

I did better this week on my weight, despite not being able to exercise.  I walked yesterday and my knee felt good afterward, so I thought I'd try to run today.  NOT!  I ended up walking, which was better than nothing, but it is frustrating waiting for an injury to heal.  Grrr.

Here's the bottom line:

Starting weight:  298.4
Last week:  142.1
This week: 138.3
This week:  loss of 3.8  lbs

Wow!  I guess I got rid of that Halloween weight gain pretty fast.  That's a good thing.    Have a great week, everyone!

I had the VSG in January. I did not have surgery with Dr. Rupp, I went through Unity's Bariatric program in Fridley and Dr. July was my surgeon. I was the 12th person to have a VSG at Unity, and I speak every other Tuesday night for their informational meetings. Please feel free to send me a friend request if you have more questions!

I think I've had pretty great success with my VSG. I never had any major complications, and as long as I follow the rules, as with any of the surgeries, I lose like a champ!

I'm an RNY'er, but wish I would have done the DS.....BUT  from what I know Dr. Rupp has a fantastic rep and is a great surgeon.  Best of luck!

Edited to clarify...I'm not sorry about my RNY....just think DS would have suited me better.

So my knee has gotten worse, not better this week.  It really blew up Monday night and I have been gimping around all week.  It looks like a canteloupe, LOL.  Unable to exercise for four days, yikes!!!

We'll see how things go this weekend, but surprisingly, my weight went down substantially.  This morning I was down 3.3 lbs since Monday morning--makes me wonder if the "eating too little" adage is true--since I am not burning calories by exercising, I'm actually eating proportionaltely more??  I haven't changed my eating really at all, but I'm paying close attention.

We'll see if it's just an anomaly, or if it really works.
