Topic: It's Monday, Monday, la, la, la--weigh-in!
Okay, bad YouTube singing aside, today is Monday and it's weigh-in day, for those of you who choose to participate.  So how'd you do this week?

I'm up a bit this morning, though I was down during the week.  I don't feel too bad, though, since I am FINALLY able to run again!  I had cortisone shots in my knees on Friday, and was able to run 3 miles yesterday, so WOOT!  I was afraid two weeks off from running would cause me to lose all my conditioning, but thankfully not so.

I always believe that the slightest break in my exercise regimen will have drastic consequences:  weight gain, loss of fitness, etc.  I guess I want to hang onto that, because it gives me a sense of urgency to get me to work out and not start down the path to couch-potato-ness again.   On the other hand, it's hard to remember that bodies need rest days too, to recover and build strength.  Anybody else have that problem?  Having never in my life been any kind of athlete, I have no frame of reference for this.

Okay, bottom line:

Starting weight: 298.4 lbs
Last week: 138.3 lbs
This week: 140.4 lbs
Gain of 2.1 lbs

Hope I can run more this week and get that two lbs back off my butt.  See folks on Saturday for coffee!

Congratulations, good for you!  You look awesome.

What hockey position do you play?  My SIL plays on a women's team, too.

Welcome  and CONGRATS!

You had a great surgeon, by the way ...  Follow the instructions in the binder you received, attend support group meetings regularly, and hang on, it's a heckuva ride!

Of course I remember you, Deb - we had fun together at the lodge!

I've just had what seems like more than my share of stress in the past 2-3 years. (I know, haven't we all??)  I found it necessary to minimize as many of the unnecessary factors as I can in my life.  I need the energy for those things and people I really have to be there for, and of course I have maintained several very close friendships that came to me thanks to WLS.   I know I've hurt some people by letting go, which was never my intention - I just couldn't keep giving of myself, my time, my energy, without it affecting my family.

As for your 20 pound gain?  It's normal.  Remember the big 'conflict' here a few years ago, when certain perfect little soldiers claimed it wasn't acceptable to see that happen?  That you should never eat another m&m or frito as long as you live?  Bull****  It IS normal, statistics don't lie.  Doritos didn't disappear from the shelves just because we had WLS, restaurants still offer desserts, and even if you have only protein and vegetables in your shopping cart, you will always find candy in the checkout lane.  Not that we have to LIKE regain, just never forget how far you are still ahead of where you once were!  And never forget that you still have your tool, and it is always your choice to USE it as it was intended.  That's what it all comes down to, CHOICES.  You can eat protein first, or you can waste precious space and calories on donuts and pop.  You can avoid water 30 minutes before and after meals, you can chew your food to applesauce consistancy, blah, blah, blah.  The only thing you should NEVER do is give up.

Take care, don't be a stranger ~

Darla,

I'm not sure if you remember me?  I come out here every once in a while, but not too often.  I remember the "godd old days" when there were so many posts you couldn't keep up with them.  Why is the board dying?  I don't know.  I do know that I could not have made it that first year or two without my OH buddies!  I have a couple things for you today...

First, I have been there done that with a teenage daughter.  I went through more than 6 years of heartache with her, including her being kicked out of school, 8 months in treatment, court appearances, etc.  I cried more and prayed more than I ever thought I would have to.  She's doing good now, still making some choices I worry about, but compared to before...I can't complain.  The most important tip I have is to pick your battles, otherwise you find you are battling over every thing.

Second, I'm up 20 lbs from my lowest and I can not seem to get back on the program.  I beat myself up daily for gaining the weight and for failing daily to eat like a normal person.  I understand stress.  My stress is different than yours, but stress nonetheless.  I lost my job a year ago, decided to go back to college, have worked PT jobs to supplement the money, have had to move twice because I couldn't afford where I was before anymore, and have had a couple of health issues.

I miss the support we used to get and give.  I think that's a big loss for us and for the newbies.  I got an email from OH.com congratulating me on my surgeversary...I hadn't even remembered it.  That makes me really sad because it was a pivotal and defining time of my life.  I miss you.  I have stayed in touch with Sweet Sue and that is about all.  I miss the coffee's.  I miss my pants not leaving red marks around my waist!  I miss feeling good, vibrant, and healthy.  I'm scared that I'll never be able to get back to basics and get back to where I was.  I have a hard time even remembering what is the right way to eat.  I still take my vitamins faithfully and drink my water, so I am happy for that.

I hope you can find a way to live with the stress that is your life.  I hope we can reconnect.
