Thanks Darla!
I know nothing tastes as good as I feel but I've done the chocolate protein for 2 yrs and really loved it! I'm trying so hard to find a vanilla protein drink that I like. I'm working on it. The vanilla for some reason just doesn't blend up to the same consistency. I guess it's just what you get used to.
I am thankful for all the rest though, so today I will focus on that.
Happy New Year
Tess

Congratulations, Tess! Can you believe two years have already passed?
It is hard to give up some things, but you are absolutely right in that we GAIN a whole new life in a normal body! Chocolate, nuts, wine - none of them taste as wonderful as your new body feels!
WOO HOO!!!

I was in RNY Surgery 2 yrs ago right now! I was so scared but determined and hopeful. High weight was 270 and todays weight was 116, I am 5' 1". So you can imagine what a huge difference 150+ lbs off my small frame
There were times I thought "Holy Crap, what have I done!" But it got better and better. A few negatives, lost my gall bladder and I have developed a freakish amount of kidney stones and have had a couple surgeries. I have to give up all chocolate and soy milk, nuts etc. I can't seem to drink alcohol and miss having a glass of wine. I was also dx'd with bladder cancer but doing very well. Not related in any way.
BUT I love running and playing with my children and buying clothes in the Junior Deptartment. I loved going to the beach without total dread. And getting the dead weight off of my poor arthritic joints! All in all I feel like it has been a wonderful gift and it has added YEARS on to my life.
So even with the bumps in the roads and things I've had to give up, I've gained great things, too many to count.
Thanks for letting me share with you today.

Ate sweets and carbs and gained nothing...um, except some nasty gas of course. LOL!
But, I don't fear the holiday's anymore which is a really nice place to be on this journey.

Topic: RE: Starting to Re-build Me
Unfortunately due to an unforseen situation, I had to postpone my surgery.
But my list of surgeons I met with were:
-Dr. Fasching (who I would TOTALLY go to for my LBL!)
-Dr. Harrington
-Dr. Joe Gryzkiewski (I'm not sure I spelled that right...but it's close)
-Dr. Leigh
Surgeon fee, implant fee, hospital fee = $6500.
You write one check to the hospital (or they do take CC's as well) and you write one check to the surgeon (or you apply for CareCredit).
Hope that helps you out. Keep me posted if you decide to go for PS!

Topic: RE: Dr. Baker vs Dr. Ikramuddin
I take no vitamins and I have no deficiencies. I do focus on my foods every day and get my nutrients from them. It CAN be done. However, if you're deficient now, chances are, it will remain or worsen after surgery. So while it's great to be knowledgeable about other people's vitamin regimes and the cost associated with such, please keep it in perspective that YMMV.
Also, I appealed BCBS - MN for my DS coverage. Fought like you can't even believe and I did win on the 2nd appeal. Again, it CAN be done. Don't let an insurance company scare you. Fight for what you want.
I went open with Dr. Buchwald because I simply liked him way better than Dr. Ikrammudin and I felt an immediate trust with my life in his hands. Go to the info seminars and meet the surgeons. You'll know which one is right for you.
Good luck!

Topic: RE: Any Recipe Ideas for the Holiday
I tend to go for the protein recipes since most gatherings are lacking protein options, but my new favorite go-to for potlucks is a winner for me since we (meaning DS folks) have to add fats to our foods.
4 containers of button mushrooms
1 pound of butter
2 packets of dry Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
Combine all in a crockpot and cook on low for 3 - 4 hours.

Great tip, Darla - thank you for sharing! I have blueberry lemonade on hand...will have to give that one a try.
I tend to put the flavored coffee syrups in mine - or just a little honey & granola.
Fage is still my favorite brand and I've found the best prices to be Target on those one's.
