Unity or Methodist?

Good Morning Everyone. I hope I'm posting this in the right area. I'm new to the website, but have been doing a lot of reading. I was looking to get others opinion on where they had surgery, the process, how long it took (I know it depends on insurance), the surgeon and the nurses following surgery. I've read lots of reviews on great surgeons in the area, but then I've read about not so great care by the hospital staff following surgery. The two main places I'm looking at right now are Unity and Methodist Hospital. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm just starting my journey... Thanks so much!

Morning! You're definitely in the right place, glad to see you post and welcome to the MN OH board.

I chose my surgeon, not the hospital. I chose him based on the fact that he performs the DS surgery which is the one I knew I could live with for the rest of my life. I also loved his stats. I fought insurance for coverage and on my 3rd appeal, won!

So, I'd recommend going to both of the WLS info sessions at Unity and at Methodist (I went to almost all of the hospitals info session and I know both of your two choices have them - definitely go to both, you will be glad you did!). Both locations have great surgeons. Is one closer to your home than another? That may also be a factor in your decision for transportation purposes especially. The car ride home isn't always the most comfortable, so the less of a ride you have may be better.

What surgery are you hoping to have?

I had a great experience at Methodist.  I would absolutely reccommend them due to the great preparation, wonderful care and education.  I really felt ready and comfortable with every step.

On the other hand, I know of someone who went to Unity and didn't have realistic expectations of the experience, restrictions and the mental hurdels.

I agree that you need to go to both info sessions. All of the programs have different protocols after surgery. Make sure you choose the one that you think fits you the best. I am 7 years out and this was the best decision! My surgeon was Dr Jones from Park Nic
