New Here/Park Nicollet ??
Hi all,
I'm new here and am anbout 4 weeks out. Did anyone have surgery at Park Nicollet? If so, did you feel unprepared? I'm curious because I feel so unprepared and confused and I don't have any materials on what my surgeons office says I should/shouldn't be eating. I'm a revision and they kept telling me "oh you know the drill, you had a lap band".
Thanks for listening,
Kris

Yeah, that strikes me as odd, too. Who did you talk to - Dorothy? Did you have your original surgery through PN?
4 weeks out, you can make an appointment to talk with them without having to pay for the appointment - you should tell them that you're feeling lost, you've heard about their booklet (maybe it's a binder now, it was about a 36 page? booklet when I had surgery....). If they try to give you the 'you know the routine' line, tell them - "Let's pretend I DON'T. Treat me as you would a brand new WLS patient, and EDUCATE ME!"
I would also recommend going to their support group meeting, which is every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, back by the cancer center (2nd level orange parking ramp). You can get questions answered, support, laughs, and it's a great way to stay mindful of your 'new' relationship with food. I still TRY to get there at least once/month, but being 4.5 years out and having a new PT job after my full time days, I haven't made it there for a couple months
Good luck!! Don't accept NO for an answer when you have questions!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
I have the big binder however my nutrition, surgery and follow up care tabs are empty. I asked multiple times if there should should be something there and never really got answers. That's when the "oh you know the drill, you had a lap band" statement kept creeping in.
Dorothy has been the one I've been seeing but I have an appt today with Candace. I'm hauling in that book and making them give me whatever they can find for those tabs. I kept my booklet from when I had the lap band and have been using that as a guide for the last 2 weeks. I was quite surprised by PNC and not having enough info. I was so impressed with the way they handled my band. Having RNY is completely different from the band and I don't want to damage anything or eat the wrong things.
I have pretty much been living on full liquids and a few puree recipes I got off these boards but I have no idea how much I'm supposed to be eating or what you can eat on what stage. It's been a crazy 4 weeks for me.
Thank you for your advice. I appreciate it!

Well I saw Candace yesterday and she was so helpful. She apologized for me not having any information and got everything I needed right away. I did find out I was eating too much (I was trying to follow the lap band guide) and now I know exactly what to eat and how much and what I can tolerate. I feel relieved to say the least!
I had called my previous nurse crying and expressing my concern of volume and how much I was too eat vs what I was eating. I was eating about 1 cup of full liquids and she told me not to worry and that was quite common. Candace felt otherwise and stuck it to me and told me the truth and I'm really greatful I had my appt yesterday. I feel like I now know what I am doing and what to expect.
I decided that I want to see only her from now on and will be doing just that :-)
Thanks all
