Introducing Myself
My very first post....I'm sure you are all very excited to read it, right? *smile*
I decided I should probably create an actual membership here and start reaching out to some community now that I am starting the process. Like everyone else, it has been a long journey getting to this point. Years of dieting and depression and pills and doctors. I don't even know how I got to this point. Well, actually, I do. One bite at a time and some screwy hormones.
Tomorrow I will be going to the first of three "information sessions" that I have scheduled at various clinics. The first one is with Minneapolis Bariatric Surgeons. Next week will be with Park Nicolett and Saint Paul Surgeons. I haven't decided which clinic to go with and figured going to the sessions will give me an idea on how each clinic works and "feels".
I guess that's enough for an introduction, but I wanted to say hello and make myself know.
Have a beautiful evening!

Welcome to the boards and congrats on taking the first step to a healthier you! I remember when I decided to take that first step. It felt good.
There are so many good people here to answer your questions to the best of our abilities. There is a fountain of information, both here on the MN board and all of the other boards. Research, research, research!! Keep us posted on your journey.

Congratulations! It's a scary, exciting, sometimes frustrating ride, but if you're ready to make the change, EVERY STEP IS WORTH IT!
Good luck - hopefully one of the programs will just *click* with you, and you'll be on your way - keep us posted! Ask questions, there are no stupid questions. You will get answers - sometimes conflicting answers, but go with your gut. Seems to me most people just have a feeling about which way to go once they've done their homework.

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
Welcome, Lucy! You have sure come to the right place. We all started where you are, and are at various places in the journey. Let us know how we can help you.
Feel free to come to one of the informal coffee groups that meets, too. Some of us meet in Eagan or Burnsville on Saturday mornings. Tomorrow is at the Panera Bread in Burnsville Center at 8:30am. There's also a group in Maple Grove. We are a lot of fun, (if I do say so myself, LOL).

Welcome Lucy!
You are starting out just the way I did. I went to 3 or 4 different informational meetings before making any decisions. I didn't know anything about this website until after I had my surgery though. I'm sure that after attending the meetings, you will have a good feel as to which program you will feel most comfortable with. Like everyone else said, this is a great place to ask any question at all. Everyone here is very supportive and a lot of fun to talk too.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

Hi Lucy, nice to meet you. Im Jackie and I went to Park Nicollet. The info session was great and I felt very good about it but I didnt really *click* with Dr Jones who runs the sessions. NEVER FEAR THO...Dr Svendsen is part of the PNC Bariatric program and he is AWESOME!
Besides being cute...the most amazing thing about him is how gentle he is for such a big man. I am a klutz of the first order and when I was in his office for the consult, I wobbled a bit and he reached out and caught me and helped me sit up on the table. His hands were gentle and even tho I have fibromyalgia and sometimes even a small bump can hurt for hours, it didnt hurt at all!
I also love his answer for WHY he specializes in bariatrics. He said that being a general surgeon is great because they can fix all kinds of things...but he would rather fix a chronic problem for someone who has been suffering for a long time as opposed to something that just happened like a torn muscle or ruptured appendix. I thought that was awesome!
Good luck on your journey. The losers bench is great and we will make room for you when your time comes!
