camping 5 weeks post-op
What sort of post-op diet are you on at 5/6 weeks out?
Every surgeon is different, so you should really just plan ahead and take very easily digestible items with you. Protein powders, hard boiled eggs that you can mush into egg salad, cheese, etc. and lots and lots of bottled water so you don't become dehydrated.
And truthfully, I don't know what kind of camping conditions you'll have, but I personally would bring wet wipes for bathroom calls, especially that early out.

I'm going to make an assumption here - if you have a stove and a fridge, you probably have some sort of RV/camper. So MY suggestion would be to pick up the things you need at home and just bring 'em along! Surely you have a wee bit of space to dedicate to your 'supplies'... Why waste precious camping time shopping? You'll know what you can have, what you like, what you need, just plan ahead to purchase what you need the week before you go, or bring what you already have, and enjoy your vacation!
That being said, I have two other thoughts. I LOVE LOVE LOVE camping - but I also found that it tends to be something of a snack-fest. Talk about that with your fellow campers, ask that they help you out by keeping it to a minimum. Not that you'd be able to snack much that soon after your RNY, but the temptation can be a drag.
And along those lines, JUST TO BE SAFE, bring WLS friendly, protein rich things that you CAN snack on if you have to - Amy and Paul had good suggestions. If you're able to eat anything solid, just make sure it's protein. String cheese is a good option. If you haven't tried edamame, I really like that, too (I get the Trader Joe's lightly salted edamame - then not only do you get to eat a very healthy snack, you get to play with your food, too!)
CONGRATS on your surgery, and have a GREAT TIME camping!!!

Ahhh... you're Canadian! Didn't realize. I wouldn't think anything you'd bring for your WLS would be confiscated, but I see your point.
I'd just go online (if nobody from that neck of the woods replies) and check out store locations for Target, Walmart, GNC (General Nutrition Centers) and the like. I'm SURE you'll be able to find something up there!

One of the things I like to do with a protein bar is to slice it into bite size pieces and set is on a napkin, then I make a game out of it...I get a piece of it when I do something like walk in place, clean up an area of the campsite, stretching, etc...you get what I mean. See how long you can make it last!!! You can do this with other items too...I do it with fruit also. Enjoy your camping time!! Donna
