Kicking the Carb Monster

I'm burning mad - I have been attacked by the Carb Monster about 3-4 months ago and HE is definitely winning and it p*sses me off!

In the past 3 weeks I have tried more than once to just cut them out cold turkey, to no avail, I find myself cheating!  Cheating so bad, that I wait for my fiance to go to bed, so I can eat the chips/candy/cookies...Oh wait, one worse!  Earlier this week, I bought a little container of Oreo minis...ate some, hid the container in my console for the next day!  Well, the next day...while frantically digging out my oreos while driving...I drove off the road (uphill exit), nearly losing control of the car or flipping it (at least thats how it felt)!  Scared the sh*t out of me...swore I was not going to do this anymore!

But, here I am again today, eating the cookies on my way into work and thinking of food all morning!  Even after I got and on the scale this morning and saw the number climb yet again!

If you've been attacked by the Carb Monster, how did you fight HIM off?

My pysch (a bariatric specialist) suggested going cold turkey, warned me that the 1st 2-3 days would be the worse...but I can't seem to even get thru day 1!

UGH!  All suggestions are welcome!

Did you keep a pair of your 'fat pants'?

Maybe you should try hanging them up somewhere that you can't help seeing them several times a day.  Post a pre-WLS photo of yourself anywhere you are likely to stash evil food.  Remind yourself in any and every way possible where you came from, and sabotage your efforts to sabotage your weight loss!

Or maybe pictures of your wedding dress?

Or pictures of unfortunately large women in THEIR wedding dresses???

That is why I came up with the "POP" diet. I should have registered a trademark.... No it is NOT diet Coke either.

The POP Diet is the "Point of Purchase diet plan"  You already know that if you bought it, you will eat it. Sure maybe you will be strong for a time but EVENTUALLY you will succumb. I even put the foods that call my name out in the garage in a safe, yet I knew they were there and eventually I ate them.

SO IF YOU DON"T WANT TO BE TEMPTED BEYOND YOUR STRENGTHS, stop the purchase when it arrives in your hand in the grocery aisle.   PUT IT BACK!!!    NOW!!!

Just think how good you will feel when you walk out to your car with good healthy and helpful to your goal foods.

Take care, get healthy and enjoy life. Isn't that our goal here?

Oh Teri, you hit the nail on the head.  I'm going to face the carb monster starting tomorrow.  I decided I'm going to do protein shakes the first two days at least and then start with soft foods for a couple more days and then all protein for a week or two.  I seriously don't want to walk into my five year surgiversary and be 50 pounds up!  This is going to be a major challenge, but I'm tired of looking at myself grow to levels I never thought I'd see again.  One suggestion...tell your fiance, he'll probably be very supportive of you and then you won't be sneaking food.  It took me some time, but I finally confessed to the coffee group and Linda that I was "hiding" food in my bedroom so she wouldn't know of my extra eating..  Oh, and my pysch told me the same thing...cold turkey.  Gotta get rid of our crack habit...because carbs is sugar, and sugar is crack, and crack is whack!  Hugs to you,

Add me to the list of people losing the battle against the carb monster.  Reading this thread makes me feel so much better.  I think I am going to join the fight agains carb cravings, too.
