Just ran across the forums as i have been doing my research. - Just went to the Dr last week to begin talking about getting lap band surgery. I am now scheduled for a seminar to learn more about it later this month. - I would love to hear from others that have had the lap  band done. Is it what you expected, more so or not so much...- What is life like 1 month after surgery , 6months, 1yr etc... I'm looking to learn all I can about the lap band, so that I can make an educated decision. - At this point I am all for it and am really excited about getting it done. I am wanting to lose 120lbs and just want to be sure I am choosing the right surgery for my objective / goals.

I look forward to hearing your feedback

Have a great weekend

I had RNY so I can't give you an opinion on the LB. However, I know that it is important that you go to as many forums and info meetings as you can prior to jumping in. ANY program will require you get your mind to change in order to be long term successful.  I know several people that have changed their lives with the assistance of the Lap band ( including 120+ pounds.) Remember it is you that must change, the Lap is only a tool to assist.

I, too, had an RNY, but what Paul said is the best. Learn all you can about the procedure. Good luck and welcome to the Board!

Lap Band OR Realize Band..2 different "animals". Realize band is like the "new and improved" "lap band". It is wider so there is less chance of slippage. Go to the Realize Band Forum. I am in there a lot more than I am in here..this forum is great, don't get me wrong. But since I have had the Realize Band, I learn a lot there from other "banders" I had mine done 2/28/11 and I could not be happier. I get my first "fill" next week. Excited. Have already lost weight. Good luck in your decision making. Hopefully my opinion was helpful to you!

Welcome to the MN Board!  I had RNY in 2006, but many on here have had Lap.  I think there is also a forumn here for lapsters.  I have an old friend who created a blog of her journey with lap.  I'll see if I can find it.

She has 2 blogs and I'm not sure how updated they are.  She's quite a ways out.

I can't help with the lap or realize bands. But one of the biggest reasons I discounted a band is ghrelin. I wanted it gone and the band doesn't get rid of it. I chose VSG because I wanted restriction but not malabsorption. I love my sleeve. I'm not trying to sell it, but I'm a very happy sleever!
