Minnesotans who had plastics...who was your surgeon?

So obviously I am a ways out from plastics still, being that I'll be 6 months post up next week.  I have already lost almost 100 lbs (0.8 lbs away), but the excess skin already has me depressed with my body image.  And it only seems to be getting worse.  Luckily I can see my weight loss in photos, but when I look in the mirror, all I see are the rolls of skin and flab.  Yuck.  I am definitely hoping that plastics are in my future.

Being that I love to start researching things early, I am just curious about where my fellow Minnesotans went to have plastics done post bariatric surgery.  How did you feel about your surgeon and results?  Did they accept insurance?  And how far out were you from WLS when you had it done?

I have looked up some in the metro area, but like WLS surgeons, there are many options.  And its always nice to get some positive reviews beforehand.  And I could use the pick me up of knowing that a positive plastics experience is hopefully in my future!  I may feel old, but I am far too young to be stuck with the damage done to my body from the life I previous led.
Starting Weight:  359.9 lbs  Day of surgery:  345 lbs  My Goal:  170 lbs  Surgeon's Goal:  145 lbs

I had a lower body lift and breast lift (no implants) done by Dr. Michael Fasching at Westhealth in Plymouth.  I am very pleased with my results.  Finally...no more stuffing my gut into my pants and no more tennis balls in tube socks for boobs!  I had it done back in 2004 and I was about 16 months post-op and I had lost 150lbs.  7 years later and everything is still where he put it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.  I need a thigh lift, but I have been living without that...someday...

Definitely do your research, but I would recommend having a consult with him.  He's good and his staff were great too.  I was self-pay and I don't know about his acceptance of insurance...most insurance companies don't pay for plastics unless you can prove medical necessity.  Back in 2004, I paid about 11K for both procedures...done at the same time...outpatient.  Outpatient was tough, but it saved me alot of dough.

Good Luck!

I  had RNY 2007.  It took my 18 months to reach my goal and I waited until 2009 to start PS>  I had a face lift, and eye lift first.  In 2010 I had a lower body lift.  13 lbs of skin was removed.  It is great to get rid of that hanging apron.  I still plan to have more PS done in the future.

I went to Minneapolis Plastic Surgery and Dr Tholen was my surgeon.    He did great work.   His staff is wonderful.  He does not accept insurance.  I also got consults from Dr. Fasching at West Health and Dr. Lacey at Health Partners.   Dr. Lacey does take insurance at least for some things.   Get several consults  and see where you feel comfortable.  Make sure the PS is experienced with WLS pts.
