clothing exchange
I haven't had my surgery yet, 2 weeks out. However, in all my lurking on the OH site, I see folks talking about going down in size and buying new clothes. (Now personally I figure I can lose about 30-40 lbs and still be able to shop my own closet.) But when the time comes, to be able to either trade or buy stuff cheaply is a very attractive prospect.
That being said, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a clothing exchange type of thing.
I will likely just give the stuff away anyhow, and if there are other WLS folks that can benefit, I say go for it. I have access to a local hall in the Fridley area that we could use on a Sunday.
Just mull the thought around, I think it could be successful, and if it works, we could do it a couple times a year.
If anyone is interested in helping, just respond to this post and let me know if you would be willing to help and/or donate items. Or if any of your wls friends would be interested.
If I can get some helpers and enough folks willing to donate - I think the first could occur sometime in the late June or early July time frame.
Hope to hear from you,
Linda

We have done several clothing swaps in the past 4 years, typically one in the spring and another in the fall. They've been well attended, held everywhere from Arden Hills to Eagan to Maple Grove and several places inbetween. We've called these events "Swapkins" in the past, because the first such swap was held in Hopkins.
It has been a very good thing, and a lot of fun. The clothes that remain (and there are usually BAGS AND BAGS left over!) are usually donated to a women's shelter, Goodwill, or any other deserving agency anyone comes up with.
I hosted one at a park shelter near my home - there was a $100 fee to rent it. I put out a basket and asked everyone that came to donate $5 or whatever they could to help me recoup some of that cost, and I ended up with $95. Pretty much perfect. We had a potluck & bonfire at my house after the swap was done, it was a really good time! I have been pondering hosting another, but I have too much happening this spring with my son being Confirmed and my daughter graduating from Highschool.
So whoever would like to put it together, I offer myself up as a brain to pick, it's about all I can spare right now (and THAT'S a stretch! lol..)
