Has anyone had very slow wgt loss?
I'm not even 3 months out, RNY...eating between 800-900 cal/day. Exercising regularly, think I'm doing everything right, but for the last 6 weeks, only losing about 1.5#/week.
The only thing I know I'm doing 'wrong' is I'm almost starting to obsess about this. [not quite, but I have to keep reminding myself this is a marathon, not a sprint]
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Leda

Everyone goes through stalls, it's really normal....
Every doctor has a different plan....I saw in a previous post what your doctor said you could eat, WOW.....He really allows you alot.....At 3 months out I was only eating 1/4c. At 6 months 1/2c. At 9 months 3/4c. At 1 year and on 1c.
It's important to follow your doctor's plan, but at the same time, I think your eating WAY too much.....
Good luck, Kelly

I also have extremely slow weight loss. I'm almost a year out now, but for the last 8 months I'm lucky to lose 3 pounds a month, if any. The inches keep going down though, so maybe focus on your measurements and less on your weight?
I actually took the battery out of my scale to keep myself form obsessing.

Leda and Nicole-
I never post on this forum, but I live here in MN so I thought I would pop in. This is the exact problem that has me so down in the dumps. I have been in a stall since November! This is ridiculous I know, but it is my own fault. I had my RNY on May 24th and I have been stuck at 214 since Thanksgiving. Leda, I think Kelly (?) is right. I think you are probably eating too much. I know I am, if it makes you feel any better. I was losing so nicely from May through November that I took it all for granted. I did not exercise and I began to eat a little of whatever I wanted. I think I am filling myself up with calories from fruits and veggies believe it or not. I just take too many liberties with munching and I love eating fruit in the evening. It's healthy munching, but it sure adds up. It's really dangerous too because I know I'm still fixating on eating. The need is still there.
Also, being sedentary DOES NOT HELP. I must start exercising!
Leda, I can tell you one thing that I know for sure: Take advantage of your Honeymoon period. As time goes by you are able to tolerate more and more foods and before you know it, you will almost feel like your old self. That is what happened to me. I can eat anything. Not quite as much, but I do not dump from anything. And I could kick myself for not paying attention to losing more weight when it was so darn easy. So now I have to ramp things up through exercise and lower calories.
That's my two cents. Good luck ladies and write back if you need some cheering on.

Leda,
I've been thinking about your post all morning.....
1 idea maybe for you is to post on the RNY board, put a post out on there asking what RNYers eat at 2-3 months out......
I think by hearing the responces, will help you figure this out....
Kelly

Thanks everyone, for the advice, encouraging words and commiseration! I'll try posting an inquiry on the RNY board to see what everyone is eating 2-3 months out.I'll post the answers I get here.
I did post the same question above on the general forum board and got a variety of answers....from 'you're not eating enough' to you're eating too much. Go figure. But it is evident that I'm not alone in the slow wgt loss category!
Blessings to you all,
Leda

Leda Thanks for logging in here. I don't know of anyone that posts here that wants to do anything other than be successful. We are with you in this and to a person, have found All of the trials and efforts involved to be SO SO worth it. There is nothing we do that really is a sacrifice. It may be a new behavior and it may involve CHANGE but hey, how do we describe how good it feels to be healthy, or to regain life and have more acceptance of ourselves? Maybe even Liking the changes. I am so fortunate that I could devote the time for some self improvement. Lord knows I sure needed it. I feel so good to be off of insulin, I feel much more energetic and life is sweet. We truely wish that for you too.
For the first year (actually starting pre-op) I logged every calorie in and any type of exercise calorie burned on livestrong.com. There are other places you can do a similar thing (for free) like sparkspeople. You THINK you are eating a low calorie amount, but that may or may not be true. So do yourself a favor and really get serioous and log things so you can adjust you intake vs exercise.
Oh and I was in a stall for two months and then started to lose again, I also had a weight re-gain at 10 months out. It isn't easy and I have found the ability to eat almost anything to be more of a challenge than when i was restricted.
I will say that going back to the basic of DENSE protein first and no drinks around a meal really works. When I eat really dense stuff, like chicken, I CAN'T eat for many hours, so I really don't snack. If I eat easier stuff, i am not satisfied and tend to eat between meals. So I am preaching to you and to myself, as I don't think we can ever go back to the old ways and be successful long term, and isn't that where we want to be?

Hi Paul,
You always have such encouraging and 'real' words which I appreciate. I do log in every calorie on Sparkpeople. I was using LiveStrong, but when it automatically increased my calorie intake based on the daily exercise, I found I was eating more. It was at that time I was eating about 1200 cal/day for about 2 weeks until I 'woke up' and decided that wasn't going to work! I'm also quite diligent with no fluids 30 minutes before and after eating.
I not only have to listen to my body more, but learn how to dechiper what my body is needing or not needing. Since I had a raging attack of colitis [3 times!] 20 years ago, my body couldn't figure out what was going on so I fed it. My body has been numb and I'm trying to get back in touch with it.
I am liking the changes I see. My diabetes meds are 1/2 of what they were and I look forward to not having to take them at all. And the most fun part is I had to buy a new pair of jeans yesterday and I'm down 4 sizes! I can't even remember the last time I was in a size 18 jean. Hooray!
So, while I still worry, fret, obsess, I am committed to this process. With my perfectionistic personality type, I want everything to be 'right'; I want to do everything right even though I recognize this as faulty thinking. I fear failing once again, but that is the old mindset and I'm developing a new mindset and new lifestyle and renewed health. That is what I want.
Thanks to you and everyone who continue to support me through my new life discoveries.
Blessings,
Leda

Hi Leda,
I think we had surgery about the same time. Mine was December 15, I am two and 1/2 months out. Here is a sample (today) of what I ate.
Breakfast: 1/2 c. oatmeal (made with water) (low calorie) instant
Mid- morning -1 c. milk/ protein shake mix
Lunch - 1 hardboilled egg (whites only) mixed nuts (about 2 tablespoons) had a hard time finishing.
mid-afternoon - 1 c. milk/ protein shake mix
Dinner- 1 slice high protein bread (P28) and 2 tblepsoons peanutbutter (high protein -low cal) did not finish.
My weight has stalled (average 3-4 lbs every 3 weeks) But, I just keep pluggin away. I exercise almost every day. This is not going to be a fast process, but it has been moving fast enough. I dont like the saggy skin, so I want it a little slower weight loss so my muscels can catch up. I feel great. And this amount of food has been like this since about a month ago. I don't see it getting any larger portions for at least 6 months more.
