After a year of working with my insurance company and doing everything they said I had to do to qualify for VSG now, 10 days before my scheduled surgery date I find out they cover the hospital stay but not the surgeon or assistant surgeon. What a deal. They cover bariatric surgery but won't cover the surgeon. They'll pay for me to go to the hospital for a few days but nothing else. Huh...

Yeah, Lauralee's still working on it.

I had  health partners cancel mine 5 days before my surgery date.   All insurance companies have a appeal process, hopefully your clinc will help you with the appeal.  I won the appeal because they goofed up. Long story.  :)

Good Luck

Oh no!  I hope they can work something out for you... to go through all that work and find that out, ugh...

And to the other poster- I have HP too and had a nightmare just the otherday that when I arrived at the hospital to check in, I was called to some back office where HP reps told me they would not pay for my surgery... I'm not happy to hear it actually happened to you!

I got a little bit of good news today. Now the say they MAY cover the surgeon and assistant. I'd like to know how they decide when they MAY cover and when they MAY NOT. I'm calling again in the morning.

This has to be clarified soon. Surgery is next Friday.

Good luck
I had to take the bowel prep the day before surgery at 10am and didn't get the approval on my appeal until 1pm the day before.

Well, I'm back to where I started with my insurance. Bariatric surgery is a covered expense but not the surgeon or assistant surgeon. How can you have surgery without a surgeon?

I'm waiting over the weekend to hear from Lauralee. I need to know exactly what Dr. I and his assistant will charge. Then I need to decide if I can afford to pay for it myself.

Do any of you have the bill for your surgery running around the house? If so, can you take a peek at the surgeons' fees and share it with me? I'm afraid it's going to be $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

 Really really pi**ed off.

Anyone? Just a ballpark of what your surgeon and assistant surgeon's fees were? My insurance covers everything - everything else. They just don't cover the surgeon. Question - How do you have surgery without the surgeon?

So, I'm going to have to self pay. Surgery is in 3 days. Anyone have your bill from the hospital running around the house? I don't care who the surgeon was or what hospital. I just need to know if I'm going to start my bowel prep and liquid diet in the morning.

Help help help....

Hi, I can't remember for sure, but the surgeon's fee might have been arouind $8000. I can't believe the insurance won't pay the surgeons! DUH!!!

Blessings to you as you have surgery and the 1st step on a new journey!
