They want you to eat protein....You need at least 60g. of protein a day...
Most soup does not have that much protein in it, unless you add meat yourself or make your own....
If you don't get in your protein, you will most likely lose more hair and lose muscle mass......So eat foods high in protein, like Tuna, fish, seafood, etc.....:)
If you want soup or broth as an added snack or something, that might be okay....
I'm 3 years out, I do eat soup, but I make my own loaded with meat....

Yep, I'm sure that is what she's afraid of is the liquid part of the soup pushing through your meat faster....You may want to stay away from eating soup to often....And eat the protein alone.....:)
Hi Leda,
I am almost 14 months out and had surgery with Dr Benn, so we see the same nutritionist. She also cautioned me about soup. I didn't like soup all that much before surgery but LOVE it now for some reason. I make "cheaters chicken soup" when rushed but take a bunch of chicken and add it to some Campbells Chicken noodle soup and make it into more of a stew. So I don't have a lot of broth. I've done well with it and it fills me up.
As long as you are diligent about getting in your daily protein of 60-80g, Having soup now and then isn't going to be an issue. Just make sure it's got protein in it.
Good luck!
Tess

I don't have an opinion on soup. But in talking to Dr. I's nurse this morning she said she uses Bariatric Choice http://www.bariatricchoice.com/bariatric-diet-protein-soups- 16.html when it comes to high protein soup and pudding. She had RNY years ago and had kept all her weight off. At least it looks like it to me. Since I travel a lot I'm going to buy a bunch. This may help anyone whose on the road a lot or if you like to take lunch to work. All you need is a cup. a little whisk, and some ho****er.
