A Little Secret
A Little Secret
I want to let you in on a little secret. It is not the sort of secret you would whisper to a friend before blushing or one that could threaten national security, but rather it is a secret that might help you believe more in yourself. While it is true that there are some on this weight loss journey who do not struggle with seeing themselves in a positive light, there are many more of us who do. The secret is that YOU ARE FAR BETTER THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE. You are more loveable, better looking, smarter, and you possess a more admirable character than you may have been lead to believe in this culture that is so biased against those who are obese. Seriously. This is not an attempt to blow rainbows and sparkles up your arse to make you feel better about yourself. Instead, it is based on my observations of my fellow travelers on this journey over the past 3 years. I am probably a little biased in my thinking on this matter, but not overly so. Nearly all of you are far better than you think you are, in my humble, mostly unbiased opinion.
Unfortunately, those nine words are far easier to say than to truly feel in your heart where it counts. I continue to be astonished by people who mistake me for someone with longstanding confidence in himself just because I am thinner than I used to be. My confidence has improved since surgery, but it takes time, effort and consistently positive reinforcement from others to overcome a preponderance of consistently negative feedback experienced for years or decades. My purpose in making this post is to encourage you to consider, even if it is just for a moment, the heretofore unthinkable possibility that you are better than what you see in yourself.
