Hey Hey Minnesotans!!
So here's my scoop: I live in Fergus Falls, MN. (moved here from the cities in July).
I am scheduled for the sleeve, in Fargo with Dr. Monson on March 10th. He wants me to lose 35 lbs before my surgery, so this week I started a liquid diet. Ya, lets do the math on that one: 5 WEEKS of liquids BEFORE surgery.
But- the good news is: I just finished my 4th day without a headache or dizziness. So- the hunger is going away... Praise the Lord!
(on day 2 I was breaking up a graham cracker for my 11 months old son and I broke a sweat trying not to eat it, lol)
Anyone else getting surgery in Fargo? Anyone else have to lose tons of weight before surgery? Anyone have any amazing protein shake suggestions?
PEACE AND LOVE MN! :-)
WOW 5 weeks on liquids...you will definately be losing weigh before surgery. Hang in there and do the best you can to follow your doctors orders. YOU can do it!!
Kelly D has a terrific list of protein shake recipes. I know she will be checking in on here....she is just flying home from NY today. She will connect with you...I will also send her a message so she does check this post of yours.
Good luck....hugs....connie d
Tish,
Welcome! and congrats on getting ready for your surgery. Your journey is just starting. Hang on tight you will be hitting some sharp curves and having a blast!
Monson is a good doctor as is Garcia, and Fabien. Howell is retired but he too was good. Trust the hands you are going into, you will do wonderful.
Support group is the last Tuesday of each month in the auditorium of hospital (Sanford), I am assuming that is where you had your first orientation/ type get together. It is from 630-730 pm. Nice group of people there and very informative.
There is also a group at Innovis (Essentia) over in the south side of Fargo. That one runs the 3rd Monday of each month from 6pm to 730 pm. It is open to everyone no matter where/who did your surgery. I attend both groups. You can never get/give enough support. I welcome you to attend either group. This is info just in case you don't have a group in your area.
I also host a "coffee clutch" once a month, more informal and open. We have a small group that get together and just talk about items that maybe have not been touched on at meetings or to just plain enjoy each others company. I post about that on the ND board (next door). That forum is a slow one. Not many people post, but when someone does drop a post we respond.
Again. congrats and see you soon I hope!

1) You don't have to register to participate on the MN forum - once you're set up on OH, just jump in!
2) You don't have to wait until after you have surgery to attend support groups. You may not have your sleeve yet, but you ARE on your journey! Support is pretty crucial to success, because you will be able to hash over everything with people who GET IT. People who haven't ever gone down this road really don't.
3) With 5 weeks of LD ahead of you (okay, 4.5), I would HIGHLY recommend Unjury Chicken Broth protein powder. I only had to do 10 days of LD, and the sweetness of the majority of protein drinks just GAGGED me! Maybe because I was diabetic so had learned to avoid a lot of sweet stuff, but man - chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, capuccino, banana, orange...
I NEEDED SAVORY. And the Unjury products are really high in protein, plus they deliver FAST! They have a good unflavored protein powder as well that you could mix into any number of things ~ SF puddings, other broths, juices...
Just one word of advice. READ THE LABEL. You do NOT want to overheat that stuff. Just trust me on that...
