I also agree with Darla - AMEN!  This is about YOU - the doctor cannot tell you which surgery to have, YOU have to tell them.  I went with Dr. Koeplin at St. Joseph's and he was SUPER.  The staff at the clinic continue to be helpful and supportive, and Dr. Schwartz (his partner) actually had the procedure himself many years ago.  Several people in the clinic and on the nursing staff have had it and understand what our needs are, which is helpful.  But in the long run, it is about what YOU research and prepare for, not anyone else.  It took me 2 years as well to fully research and understand what options I had.  While I have absolutely no regrets, YOU are the only person that knows what you need, embrace it, ask questions, go to support group meetings, discussions, involve your husband, family and whomever will be your support system, it will help a lot!!

Good luck making your decision and if you ever need or want to talk, we have a group that meets every saturday, and we can give you OUR experience to help you in your journey.

I had a better first experience there than you, but I did find my meeting with Dr. Jones very reassuring and he answered all of my questions.  I wanted the sleeve but it wasn't covered by HP at that time.  I ended up canceling my RNY and holding out for the sleeve- glad I did as it's covered now.  Anyhow, as of last summer, Dr. Jones was the only one there doing the sleeve, so if you're interested in that as a possibility, make sure you let them know so they'll schedule you with him.  He really was great about talking things through with me.  I'm meeting with him again 1-24 to get the ball rolling again and schedule my sleeve for May.

Good luck!

Yep, I agree with earlier replies. It's your decision, supported by your surgeon. A year ago when I first decides on WLS, all I knew about was the band and RNY. I wasn't sold on either choice so I started doing my research. That's when I learned about the sleeve. Bingo! I'm now looking at a March surgery date with Dr. Ikramuddin at Abbott. He and I discussed the available choices and he agreed with me to go with VSG.
Google is a valuable tool. Use it. Use this board, too, as a resource. Find a support group now, don't wait until after surgery. Do your homework and go to your next appointment fully armed with information that suits you.

All the best.
