HOSPITAL CHOICE?
Tina-
I had all my kids at St. John's and loved it, had some other things done there and was not so in love. It was fine just not overwhelmingly great.
I was at United and had absolutely no complaints AT ALL. The nurses were helpful and came quickly if I needed help or had a question.
I did not have a choice. They St. Paul Surgeons (i think I am right) use United because it is the Bariatric Center of Excellence. I think it is a fine facility.

I went through St. Paul Surgeons and did not have a choice but have had all of my surgeries at United Hospital and have no complaints. The nurses there are always very helpful and they are what makes or breaks a stay. My friend had hers at St. Johns and also loved it, so I would assume that either would be fine. However, this is definately a person choice if you have it. Good luck!
I have also had all my surgeries at United Hospital in St. Paul & wouldn't go to any other hospital, but that is my preference,. Put it this way, I live 45 minutes to the south of United Hospital & an hour from my family Dr. I refuse to be treated in the town I live in & will drive the drive to have treatment by both my family physician & United Hospital. The docs & nurses at United are wonderful, caring & hard working people that do a wonderful job & care about each of their patients. I couldn't compliment United enough on the procedures I have had there in the past. But as I said, this is my preference & would highly recommend United Hospital.
First off, both hospitals are rated as Centers of Excellence for Bariatric surgery, so you will be well cared for either way. I have used support groups for both and found them both VERY helpful, sometimes in different ways, but you must know you can attend meetings for either or both no matter which surgery you chose.
I have had relatives and Friends use both hospitals and have found the nurses excellent.
That being said, I personally lean towards St Joseph because my Abbott surgeons (Minneapolis Bariatric Surgeons) also do procedures at St Josephs and I found them to be very special people. I had Dr Drew for RNY, I can't say enough positive accolades for him, even though I only saw him a couple of times. Dr Swartz had the RNY procedure himself, so he is right with us.
I don't have any knowledge of the St Paul Surgeons group, so I am not dissing them in any way, I just have no knowledge or info. about them. So my opinion is a biased opinion.
