RNY versus Lapband... Is everyone out there RNY?
If you don't mind me asking, who did your VSG? I have Health Partners and go to St. Paul Surgeons, they have only done a handful of VSG so I am wondering if I should go somewhere else but then do I have to start the paperwork over again? I have also been told that it is not so much the VSG but if they have done several lap surgeries then it will be fine. I just get nervous because I get infections easy...
I worked with Dr. Leslie at Abbott. However, I should say that he was completely supportive of my decision for VSG once I made the choice to go that direction. I don't mean to imply that he tries to pursuade towards the band, just that he has had much success with it and really believes in it, which is what was appealing about him from the start. He has been fabulous to work with. Best wishes as you contemplate your decision.
Hello,
I guess I will be the one for lap band on this topic. I've lost 240lbs with it and I had the band originally put in down in tijuana being insurance wouldnt pay but Dr Lederer at HCMC does all my band care here in minnesota. Being a bandster ive heard all the stories from rny people why theres is better so im not going to get into that argument but if you have any questions regarding the lap band I will gladly answer them for you.
Duodenal Switch patient here and EXTREMELY happy with my decision.
Fought BCBS-MN for coverage of my DS and won on 2nd appeal.
All other insurances typically cover it.
RNY is primarily the majority of posters on this forum, it does seem to be true. It's the surgery most performed, so therefore you'll have more members.
I encourage you to do research on ALL forms of weight loss surgery, not just RNY and LapBand.
You will need to live with it for the rest of your life and you have to be comfortable with whatever method you choose.
No doctor or surgeon should push you into having one or the other. It is solely your decision. They can guide you, but ultimately, it's your choice. I don't feel enough people realize that these days.
And research the heck out of everything you can - do not go into this with blinders on. Honest advice from me? Go to all the local hospital seminars on WLS, too. I did that and it was the best thing I could have done. Really gave me a feel for the different surgeons, hospitals, programs, surgery types, etc. Ultimately, that is how I made my final decision. Personality and expertise of my surgeon.
Best of luck to you on the upcoming months. Lots of information to sort through. It's a good rollercoaster to be on, though. Life after is amazing!
