Hair loss, if/when you got your back
Hi all!
I am about 10 days from my 1 yr surgiverssary and I lost 1/2 of my hair . It is starting to grow back in, I have areas that are sticking straight up! I look like an infant or a baby Orangatan!
Did you get all of your hair back? Or how much of it did you get back? And when did you feel like you had most of it? I have very fine hair, but used to have a ton of it! It took forever to dry and now it's like *poof* and it's dry! Kind of nice but just doesn't feel like me, ya know?
Anyway, I was wondering what your experience was and if you would share the details with me. I'd appreciate it mucho much! Thank you!
Tess
PS - yes, I have taken Biotin the whole time and still do

I lost A LOT of my hair...I would even venture to say over half. I was the person who had to have my hair thinned out because it was so thick and full-by the time I was done losing my hair you could see my scalp!
My hair has grown back and it's still thick and full and CURLY (it was before too but not as much as it is now). I cut it all short because how thin and stragly it was with how thick and curly it is I looked like a flyng nun...it was bad.
Now I'm growing it out and so I have to deal with that but it's a lot healthier and stronger.

Hey Tess,
I too, am a year out and can safely say I lost HALF of my hair as well. Before surgery, I had THICK curly long blonde hair and after each shower post op I would have 2 brushfuls of hair come out while combing out the tangles.
In some ways it was a good thing for me, as my hair is much thinner and more managable now. Before it would take nearly FIFTY minutes to straighten, and forget about blow drying it.... I'd shower at night and let it dry why I slept. NOW, it dries much quicker and takes about 20 mins to straighten.
I took biotin and used the Nioxin shampoo, but can honestly say that if I hadn't standed with such a lush mane, I would have bald or VERY thin spots now. I share in your frustration of the regrowth coming in looking more than ODD! I have 2" shocks of "wanderers" sticking up all over the place. Nice visual of the baby monkey, as that's exactly how it looks!
It's nice to see it growing back finally, but like you, I'd love to hear from folks who are a bit further out than us who can comment on whether we can expect a good deal of the orignal mass to come back!
Thanks all!
Shannon

(hehehe... sorry, it's one of my favorite pictures!)
I really am not the best person to answer this, because my hair was thin going into WLS - thanks to years of thyroid issues. It was actually my biggest concern - how vain is that?
I have been taking Biotin and using Nioxin for years. Does it help? I'm not going to stop to find out. I did lose a noticable amount of hair following WLS, but it has come back - still not thick, probably never will be, synthroid is the only medication I still take after losing the weight ( was on 7 different pills and 2 kinds of insulin pre-op). But mine came back in quite curly! (Wouldn't you know it, when straight is "in"...)
Just keep doing what you know you're supposed to do, and if the hair never comes back in as full as it was before - consider it a trade off for a healthier body!
