One step closer
So fare I have done the following:
1. Dietician 4 meetings my 5th will be the first week in December
2. Heart Specialist visit in the
3. Pulmonary test and visit.
4. Psychology test and 2 visits
5. Received “letter of necessity" from my regular Dr.
6. 3 support group meetings
6. Lost 10 lbs because of the changes I have made the last 4 months.
7. I’m chewing the food a lot and have dry meals
I have my last and 6th meeting with the dietician the first week of January.
I think they will submit everything to BCBS (Insurance) at that time.
How long can I expect it to take and should I follow up with the insurance company and/or everyone else?
I’m ready…..soooooo ready.
Good for you!
I am just a tiny bit farther ahead of you. I have BCBS as well and have everything complete. I have an appointment on November 30th with Pharmacy, the Dietician and the Surgeon to submit me for my insurance approval, put me on my pre-surgery diet, and schedule my surgery. I don't know how long it takes yet to get approval but was told to expect approximately two weeks. They told me that the either the insurance company or they would be contacting me with the approval. I think sometimes we get excited and start calling the insurance company.
I will try to let you know how fast it goes. Very exciting! Good luck to you.

I had BCBS when I had my surgery done in Oct. of last year (I have since switched to HP). It took approx a week and a half the first time I submitted (I was denied) and then 2 weeks to the day the second time I submitted (I was approved).
One thing I can STRONGLY SUGGEST is to write a letter to the insurance company just outlining what you have completed for their requirements and why you need to have the surgery (for me it was obvious health reasons) and submit that with the rest of the paperwork. It will go through so much easier if you do.
