Ulcer? Anyone had a post WLS ulcer?
I've had a different pain in my pouch off and on the last few weeks. Just kind of shrugged it off, but took note of it. It's getting worse. I woke up last night and took an additional Omeprozole (generic Prilosec) I usually take 20mg in the morning. I don't have heart burn, just pain. It is usually after I eat, but like last night, I had an empty stomach. Pain lasted all night and is still here this morning. I feel like I can tell you the shape and size of my pouch, it's that defined.
I don't smoke, don't take NSIDs, don't drink caffeine and very little alcohol, just a few sips maybe twice a month. So I don't know if I can still get an Ulcer? I supposed I can.
Anyone else have any input? I'd love to hear it. Maybe I just have a virus or something.
Thanks as always for listening! Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
Going to stick to protein drinks today I think, maybe some soup.

I'd call your doc. That doesn't sound good, especially if the Prilosec doesn't help.
I have skipped my Prilosec for two days, and guess what--pain is back today, so now I know how vital it's going to be. I haven't lost any weight since I started taking the Prilosec, though, so I was testing to see if that's the problem. I guess I'm just going to have to keep taking it.

I did call and talk to the WLS PA Doc this morning. She asked a bunch of questions. She is having me up my Prilosec to 40mg in the morning and 20mg more at night. She said to try it for a few days and see how it goes. BUT to call if I get worse.
Soooo, my stomach aches almost all of the time EXCEPT when I eat. Then it feels better, not great but better. Then as my stomach empties the pain ramps up again. I just want to sit in a chair and not move around a lot. Yuck!
MNDANE - does this sound about right to you? How did they treat yours? I really appreciate the response you all, I really, really do! Thank you!

Tess,
I've had one large ulcer, and two smaller erosions since surgery. My pain felt like someone was stabbing me in the stomach, and it was always if I tried to eat or drink something. I would have pain so bad that I was on zofran 4 times a day to just try to get some fluid in. This is why I ended up so dehydrated that I was on IV therapy for 12 weeks.
Keep a watch on it, and if it gets worse they will do a scope to check for ulcers.
Good luck!

Yes, I've had 2 ulcers since my first WLS. I had to have a revision to my RNY last year because of an ulcer in my pouch that wouldn't heal after 5 months. PLEASE make sure you go in and get an endoscopy to verify that it is an ulcer. They'll probably prescribe sucralfate and prilosec or Protonix for a couple of weeks and you should start to feel better. I had a lot of nausea so I got a prescription for phenergan. I survived on sourdoug bread and gatorade for 3 weeks as it was the only thing that wouldn't make me ill during my first ulcer. The 2nd time nothing helped it. Stay on top of it. It's very very big deal. Trust me.
Please spay and neuter your pets!
