Nine month check was interesting
My 9 mo check went well, and I am on target for my goals. That being said, the discussion with my nutritionalist is always interesting and challenging. I had documented the past three weeks of intake and exercise, so she looked at that and then gave me some direction for success. Her are some of my goals:
1. Weight lifting so I won't lose any more muscle mass. This is in addition to continuing my treadmill and walks.
2. Cut the snacks/grazing and get back to three meals, mostly to ensure I end up with good habits.
3. I should eliminate protein shakes and bars and eat real food. I said, but I like my shakes and bars. Maybe that was a first time she heard that.......
4. I think we talked about coffee again, but being I am only a social coffee drinker, I might have escaped further direction. She noted I knew that I had to counter a cup of coffee with 1.5 cups of water.
I stated I was going to try and lose 15 pounds in the next quarter. She thought that was unrealistic. I lost 27 pounds two quarters ago and 12 this past quarter. She said the rate of loss slows a lot the closer we get to normal weight. She thought 8 pounds would be closer to what I could expect. She is most likely right, but if I don't aim for 10-12 pounds, I might not make 8. So I will dream of Onederland a bit and try and stay the course.

Paul,
Sounds like your getting things in order.....Good for you keeping track of what you have been eating too....
Yes, my Doctor believes in 3 meals and no snacking also, it's hard.....
Lifting weights is good to do, I feel I lost so much of my muscle, but slowly regaining it.....
She's right, the farther your out the harder and slower the weight comes off.....I'm lucky if I lose 1 pound a week, when I try....Bacically been maintaining.....
Good luck on your new goals.....Kelly

Paul,
Nice new avi!!! And Rick is right, those nutritionists don't know everything. The one I saw for my initial (mandatory) appointments was about 120# soaking wet in her Sorrels, and looked like she had never seen 122 in her life. She told me that I should NOT eat sugar free/calorie free popsicles, because they would more than likely lead me right back down the path to Haagen Daaz, cans of Pringles and pans of lasagne. (which, to be honest, was me paraphrasing HER warning...)
I never did see her again after that. I wonder if she got blown away in our recent wind storm?
Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
Paul, my dear friend, how very transparent of you to share this post so honestly. It is true that the success that you have seen is awe inspiring and sincerely challenging to us peeps. You have stayed the course, you have supported so many, and I would agree with the others when I say that Nutritionists don't know EVERYTHING.
I agree with Kelly in that 3 meals a day seems like a big stretch-it's hard, and I so understand what you said about aiming higher so that you can reach the goal that they gave you. We didn't get the way we were by taking it easy...now we can't take it easy or things get slowly tangled again.
I like your attitude. Keep up the fantastic show of honest endeavors and great diligence. It will pay off for you...and it inspires us!!

Paul,
I'm only three months ahead of you and I will say, aim high and if you really try, be happy with what the results are. I have never been told numbers in pounds to lose so I have just strived to do my best. At my one year check up, Nov. 1, I had lost 125 pounds. A week later I was at a loss of 130 pounds. So go figure!!? I just keep working on it and without being told how much I should lose, I set some of my own goals. By the way your new pic looks great!!! Keep up the good work!! Donna
