Park Nicollet Burnsville Support Group
Has anyone gone to the support group at Park Nicollet Burnsville? I was thinking of going tomorrow night even though I didn't have my surgery there.
I've never been to a support group through a bariatric center before, not even my own (U of MN).
If you've gone, would you recommend going? What can I expect?
Are there any other support groups people would recommend for a 2 yr post op?
Thanks!
Anna

Hi Anna -
I did not know about the Park Nicollet Burnsville group, however, I had surgery last month, and was thinking of attending the group at Abbott tomorrow evening as I had my sleeve done there. That said, I dislike parking in the evening there, having had a very bad experience last year, and would be interested in knowing more about this Burnsville group as well. This would also be my first try with a support group, but am looking forward to meeting and learning from new people. Burnsville is a lot closer to home!

I've been going very regularly since 2 months before my surgery. The PNC group at Methodist meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, 5:30-6:30.
Yes, i would HIGHLY recommend going. Pre-op and early out, you learn a lot about the whole game. A little further out, you learn about changes, get some good tips and perspective on struggles. Further out, it may be largely repetitive, but it is STILL beneficial - you are reminded of things that may have gradually slipped your mind, you can share experience and tips with newbies, and therefore keep yourself mindful.
I made a commitment to go before I let anyone stick a knife in me. And with very few exceptions, I have gone - at LEAST once a month. I do think it helps to keep your WLS in the front of your brain, so you are less likely to let bad habits back in. I know plenty of people who have stopped going altogether, and have also gained back many more pounds than they care to admit. I don't ever want to be one of them.

Darla,
Is this the one in St Louis Park? Is this where you go? I'm off early this Wednesday so I think I may go.
Thanks!

Date(s): |
Second and fourth Wednesdays of every month |
Time: | 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. |
Location: | Cancer Center Conference Room (1101), First Floor, Park Nicollet Frauenshuh Cancer Center, St. Louis Park |
That's the one ~ If you go, the Frauenshuh Cancer Center is more or less part of the Meadowbrook building, which is more or less on the back (north) side of Methodist Hospital. If you park in the orange ramp, go up to the second level - then when you walk in the door to the building, the room we meet in is more or less straight ahead of you.
Hope to see you!

I had a note from my surgeon that there was a group at Burnsville. When I called, I must have called after the person in charge went home, because I couldn't get any info on time and room etc. So if you have some more info, I might be able to attend.
It is true that the group that meets at Methodist is well run and informative so I figure the Burnsville group should be good too.
