Lap Band Friends...

I've been away for quite some time...but I'm back!  :-)

I have a co-worker considering WLS...she is looking at Lap Band.  She was asking me how much weight she "would" lose, but because I had RNY I couldn't give her an answer.  But I knew all of you could.  I know of course it all depends on exercise etc.  She is looking at Unity for her WLS center.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

While the Lap band system is quite different from a RNY, one has the potential to lose as much as an RNY , generally at a slower pace. The whole thing is continuing to follow the plan and to make permanent lifestyle changes.
I know of two Lap-band people that have lost an excess of 150 pounds. I also know of RNY people that have either lost and gained it back, or have only lost 10-15 pounds in two years post-op.
So while there is a tool that will help an individual, there really is no magic wand that guarantees success.

Hey there good to see you here again!!   My husband had lap band in June of last yr so he's almost 1 1/2  yrs out.   He has lost around 60 lbs so far.   He struggled hard in the beginning because it wasn't coming off very fast but now he is really starting to see some results.  I had RNY so it was hard for him to see the much slower loss I think but it is happening.   It's just a different process.   His Dr told him if he follows the plan and keeps doing what he's doing he can lose just as much as RNY but much slower.
