New member - waiting for approval

Good evening, everyone. I'm EJ, long time lurker, first time poster. I'm from Mpls, I'm a 30 yo mom of one wily toddler. I'm one of those folks who has struggled all my life with weight -- overwight kid, overweight teen, overweight adult. I currently have a BMI of 50, down from 52 this July (small steps!).

I started this journey last year, gathering info and attending a few info sessions at various clinics and hospitals. I chose the DS and Dr. Buchwald in July, and have been jumping through the HealthPartners hoops -- finished my phone appts last week and just got the insurance approval sent off Friday. I have a tenative date set for December 14, if all goes well with the approval process. If anyone happens to know how long it takes HealthPartners to approve, I would be much obliged!

I'm crossing my fingers that I can get this done before the end of the year, because my employer is switching insurance companies in January. I really don't want to start this process all over again -- I'm sure you all know how THAT is.

I am also currently waiting for Insurance Approval. Same here I jumped through all of Healthpartners Hoops,. My stuff went into them on Oct 20 and I am calling Healthpartners Everyday and sometimes its 2x I call them. They have 10 Business Days they keep telling me. I figured I would hear right away and I am still waiting. This is my second weekend that I have to sit through waiting and I think its in humane to do this to a person. LOL. I am going through Park Nicollet. Let me know when you get your Approval. I hope to have mine on Monday..(Yeah Right)...Here is to a Faster Approval for both of us....

Hi EJ! Welcome! So glad that you are taking the step from lurker to poster...and congratulations for getting your BMI down to 50!

I am no help or comfort with Health Partners insurance approvals. I am however here to tell you that I am almost at my one year Surgiversary and I do not regret my surgery at all. I had RNY in Dec of 2009.

Welcome EJ....sounds like you have done all you can. The wait for insurance approval seems to take forever...I remember those days!!

My insurance approval took less than 24 hours, but it was a different company, so I'm no help.  It's nerve-racking, I know, but you will get there!  Good for you bringing your BMI down already!!
