3 week post op update
tomarrow is my 3 week post op. I saw the doctor yesterday and i lost a total 44.7 lbs, the dietician said i was not eating enough and not getting in enough protein, it is sure hard to eat when nothing looks, tastes or sounds good, my stomach gets rumbly after i eat and i get bad smelly gas does anyone know what i am talking about any suggestions on what i should try to eat that wont make me feel so rumbly and gassy. Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated Thanks margie
well yesterday I got a phone call from Lora Lee , Dr. Ikromuddins nurse and she had some bad news, we needed to reschedule my surgery date to Oct. 6th instead of the 1st. I was pretty bummed out but I guess it is only 5 more days too wait.
I didn't have the DS, but I think we all experience gas and pain during the recovery period. The bady has changed, you had a cleansing diet prior to surgery so you need to rebuild the enzymes and bacterias that helped digest the food. The other issue is that you might be lactose intorerant after surgery. That does make copious quantities of gas.
Be glad you had the DS, with the RNY types, we are no as focused on texture as we are on quantity, so I was eating chili or refried beans twice a day for about five months. That might not be your choice if you want to skip the gas part. I was lucky to be unemployed at the time, so I didn't have to worry about office scuttle-butt
I am a big believer in protein shakes. There are many recipies you can make to keep it varied and fresh. I don't recommend "soup" (as a staple of your diet because it doesn't keep you feeling full as long as a textured food) , but if you put protein powder in it, it will be a good meal for you.
My recommendation would be TOFU, it is a soy product, will take on flavors you cook it in and comes in several densities. It is a very convertible product.

Milk and bad carbs do it for me........... There was one time (ok more than 1 but hey) that my hubby got up in the middle of the night cuz he thought the sewer broke and to his suprise there was FRESH air in the bathroom ya so they can be pretty nasty.
I can't believe I just shared that with everyone.
Good luck to you and CONGRATS on your loss so far.....

Marsha, you crack me up!
I agree about dairy--it's hard to avoid, but you can get the lactose free milk, etc. Lactose doesn't work for me at all anymore, but even before the surgery it was a recipe for gas (and worse!) Try avoiding that.
I have been trying to pinpoint what foods may be giving me the stomach pain I have been having, and I am afraid that it may be popcorn--which is one of my favorite foods. Darn!! If I don't eat popcorn and no longer have pain, I guess I'll know.

Oh yeah, GAS!
I have become the GAS QUEEN since WLS, and that's JUST FINE (well, MOST of the time!! ).
Let's just say that after 17 years of tolerating my HUSBAND'S excessive flatulence, PAYBACK IS A ***** AND HER NAME IS SUGAR FREE HAZELNUT LATTE!!!
It IS worse in the first few weeks - once things get moving again (including YOU with walking and such), it'll dissipate quite a bit. BUT, things may treat you differently now, at least in that department. I know I have developed a taste for hot & spicy foods, something I really never dabbled in pre-op.
Let me tell you, if you're gonna fart anyway, you may as well make it something to marvel over. Garlic, jalapeno, wasabi, BRING IT ON LIKE DONKEY KO... well - FARTS!!!
