Changes in 2011 by Insurance companies!!!
I was just told this week by our insurance broker that WLS will not be covered by any of the major insurance companies beginning 2011 due to the health care plan from the President. Because it is not mandated by the new health care bill, the insurance companies will not cover it any more at all. I am greatful that I was able to have my WLS over 8 years ago. It saved my life and has given me so much more than I could ever imagine. It breaks my heart that no surgeries will be covered, not even for the people that can not live without it. I just can't believe this will truely happen.
If this is true, and I sure pray that it isn't, we have to do something..........
Hugs,
Ginger
Just called the benefits coordinator with BC/BS of MN and was informed that with my insurance, there is no exclusion nor have they heard of this happening. My insurance will still cover the procedures - all the before, during, and aftercare. WHEW!
Would think that they would continue to cover, as in the long run, we will all be so much healthier!!

Hey fellow Minnesotans....
Just an FYI - CHECK your policy closely. If your policy is self funded (Most large employer groups are) then it is optional for the group to cover it or not. Medica has begun excluding coverage on their fully insured group plans as they renew after 1/1/11 unless the employer choses to INCLUDE it it will be an exclusion.
Blue Cross Minnesota has not currently followed suit - however many employers are requesting the exclusion which BCBS will honor (all for a measly savings of about 1% of total premium). I know this as I am an insuranc broker *****presents large employer groups (250+ employees) in the twin cities. The best thing to do is ask the carrier directly, and provide specific dates.

I was told by my surgeons office to call the Insurance Co (Health Partners) and verify coverage for Bariatric Surgery for January 2011 (renewal) and also ask if there have been any exclusions. With my plan I have a deductible of $1500 and then it is covered at 80% up to a total max of $2500, which is what I currently have so not bad. There were no exclusions with mine and hope you all have the same luck!
VERY HAPPY!
